Is this the Summer of '67 or '68? It's either one or the other... |
|
but I can't figure which one.

Next year's 08 and I have this creepy feeling it's not going to go well. Democratic protesters are coming to a city with a DNC and a Democratic mayor. I'm thinking we're going to have '68-esque protests, because the local news here in Denver is talking about the police and the protest group already not getting along well.
It's just not a good thing at all.

I see the answer as neither one. If you lived through ’67 and ’68 you wouldn’t believe how quiet the campus is today. I have 2 kids in college now and things aren’t at all like they were back then. It’s a lot different to have the draft staring you in the face. If you weren’t there ask your parents or find an old guy like me!

9. If it's '68, the Dems are going to have a very messy convention. |
|
Let's hope they don't nominate another Humpty Dumpty.

10. Probably neither. Back then the police were not all that sophisticated |
|
These days, people don't think they have as much "on the line" either..
I guess it's true that "you cannot go 'home' again"..
Many younger folks these days are more worried about how they can make their $500 a month car payments or how which ring-tone they want..or how they can even get INTO college..
Our day came and went, I fear :( But it sure was a heady-time :)

12. I'm wondering about the rest of the people today. The ones giving Bush/Congress low poll numbers |
|
The Americans who have turned on Bush...the the Right wing warring with itself and the Dems in two camps one frustrated and one wanting a return to policies that seemed to lead to what we have now.
I'm seeing alot of anger out there in my red to purple state. Short tempers in stores...tension...
See it on the blogs and here. Mark Twain said "History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes." I never understood that quote before...but I'm thinking we are headed into a crucial two years that might not repeat 67, 68....but rhyme in some way. :-(

14. It's neither. The old analogies no longer apply. |
|
It's not the '60s. A quagmire in a foreign land is all that 2007 has in common with that time. Right now, there is no draft, people aren't taking it to the streets, and the music really sucks.
It's not the '30s. We can compare the Reichstag fire and 9/11 all we want, but Bush isn't Hitler. He's George W. Bush, failed President, whose reach exceeds his grasp. He's an altogether different homunculus who's helped to throw the world upside-down, and he has to be dealt with for who he really is, not as we imagine him to be.
I prefer to learn from history, but live in the here and now.
