Newborn baby girl found in Wooster, police check for ties to missing mom case

WOOSTER - Police in Wooster confirm that a newborn baby girl was found Monday night abandoned on the doorstep of a home.

According to police the baby, a white female, was found in a basket at a home on East Messner in Applecreek.

The homeowners found the child when they returned home.

The baby has been taken to the hospital where her condition is unknown but police say the infant appeared to be healthy when she was discovered.

Police say they are investigating to determine if the baby is connected to the disappearance of pregnant mom, Jessie Davis. The North Canton woman has been missing since last week and was nine months pregnant with a girl when she disappeared.

Authorities however caution that it is too early to draw any conclusions and say they are investigating as a possibility.

2. Every time I read a story of a full term mom who disappears

I hope that she'll be found at a fancy spa, taking a few days for her last R&R before she begins the hard labor of caring for an infant and toddler.

It has never been the case. These stories never turn out well, at all.

It would be a blessing if this little girl is the missing infant.

I don't hold out much hope for her mother, recent history being what it is.

..and I so hope that I am wrong.

4. Seems very little chance of that here.

The pregnant woman had another child, she would not abandon him at home alone and go off to a fancy spa. Also, the child had said "mommy is in the rug."
Pretty clear to me something bad had happened to that woman.

5. I hope the mother and baby are found

I'm hopeful this is a coincidence; the father of the baby is African-American. The child found is described as a white female, so I don't think it could be the same child. Either way, I truly hope the baby and mother are found safe and alive.

6. It is sometimes very difficult to tell the race of a newborn

especially if it's of mixed race. Takes a while for the melanin to develop.
