Dems needed to say it before Bloomberg did - "America is really in trouble"...

People in America are just beginning to 'wake up' to the horrible mess we are in and the pain that is about to be visited upon them as a result of the 6 years of Bush disaster.

Look at the polls --Bush is at historic lows(29% approval) and Congress is even lower(23% in one poll). Three of four Americans now believe we are on the wrong track as a country.

Many Dems are fearful of being painted by Repubs as 'doom and gloom' peddlers if they tell how dire the situation really is. However, the people are ready for the truth, and if Repubs take that position they will have to promote an 'everything is fine' meme to counter it --and the American people know that is a lie.

Pelosi and Reid need to have a direct address to the American people saying how much trouble we are in and what needs to be done right now, today, to begin addressing the most pressing problems. And they need to ask the American people hold Repubs accountable if they block our efforts to address these problems.

At the same time, they need to make people aware that we cannot fix a dysfunctional government as long as it is wrapped in three layers of secrecy --and that Congressional investigations are essential to returning the government to the people and out of the hands of special interest groups.

If the American people ever get a whiff of a real change in Washington that will put the focus back on them and their interests Dems would have to erect fences around the polling places to keep voters from electing them in a landslide.

I still believe that the American people can handle the truth if those in power are willing to speak it directly to them. They are willing to sacrifice if they know the sacrifice will make a difference and not just further line the pockets of special interest groups.

Nothing less will put an end to the downward spiral we are in right now. More pain is on the way and we need to give people a roadmap of what we are doing to deal with it. We need to be the party of truth with a plan. Wake up Democrats!

Dems need to put Repubs on the defensive and make them choose whether to defend Bush and his policies or acknowledge their responsibility for the disasters the have visited on the American people.

Regarding our AWOL Congress:

They've got to put something behind their rhetoric. They have to start to get tough, and to start withholding funds, withholding confirmations, using those powers that the Framers gave them to protect their own institution.

Among the politically disillusioned are both Democrats and Republicans, not to mention Independents. The Democrats can shape up, do what they were elected to do, and possibly create an eleventh-hour coalition of the disillusioned. Or...they can continue to dance with corporate interests and see a horse of a different color take birth in America. And they, the Dems, should not smugly assume that only they will sit in the saddle. We the People can choose which horse to ride!

15. Talk Is Cheap -- They Need To Impeach

It's the "business as usual" poll number that is the bell tolling for Dem chances in '08. The strategerists and consultants have nothing left to bring to the table, as the public/electorate is moving beyond manipulation's reach.

Anti-bush/GOP sentiment will wane with each day they are left unconfronted, unaccused. The perception of Dems as feckless and weak will rise conversely.

Their side only needs it to be close enough to steal. Without impeachment, I see no reason not to expect a 3rd theft.
