Could September be the DEMS last stand?
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 11:41 AM by RiverStone
October 1, 2007 begins a new fiscal year; it will also mark a definitive beginning to the end of Shrub's war, or business as usual.

The DEMS are already losing some disenchanted folks on the left seeking a true progressive party; they are understandably very disappointed DEMS on The Hill did not follow up with the anti-war platform that won us a sweeping victory in 06. The Independent voters are being shoved even higher on the fence.

With the specter of a Bloomberg/Hagel Independent ticket on the horizon, the DEMS sure as hell better do something to both distance and distinguish ourselves from the rethugs --- if not, not only will will lose more on the left, but we will lose the center. We lose the center, we lose the election.

I just hope those in the party elite don't assume our base is secure. It is not! I'm a loyal DEM who has voted straight along party lines for my 30 years of voting. I have never come as close to leaving the party as I did when we last gave Shrub another blank check for the occupation in Iraq. I do NOT want to leave the party I've worked so many years for, but I fear the party may be leaving me.

September is the "next vote" and my sense is unless we show in both a unified and passionate way that IT IS TIME TO END THE WAR MR. PRESIDENT that we won't need to wait to the primaries to see who our candidate will be, because our cause will already be lost.

September 07 may indeed be the deciding month for the election in November of 08!

3. "I just hope those in the party elite don't assume our base is secure."
Unfortunately, that's been the pattern since 1994- and I don't expect it to change, any more than I expect Harry Reid to change his stripes.

If Gore gets into the race in September, I think there will be a Dems landslide with coattails all the way down to the local level.

If he sits out- with the current slate of candidates, all bets are off.

2008 could easily be the year of the independent- and if that happens, the Dem "leadership" and their consultants will have no one to blame but themselves.
