Texas crowd kills man after car hits kid
USTIN, Texas (AP) - A crowd in Austin, Texas, turned ugly after
a car struck and injured a child during yesterday's annual
Juneteenth celebration.
Some in the crowd killed a passenger in the car as he tried to
prevent them from attacking the driver.
The victim is identified as 40-year-old David Morales.
The child was treated at a local hospital for
non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was able to
get away and is cooperating with authorities.
Juneteenth marks the day General Gordon Granger arrived in
Galveston in 1865 to share news of the Emancipation Proclamation,
which freed slaves two years earlier.

5. No, it's not.
We got into Iraq because of the malevolent planning of a few evil men playing at empire. The lust to go in was there for more than a decade; the theft of the election by Bush provided the means, and 9-11 provided the excuse. It was a long-premeditated act of evil, not an impulsive mob reaction.

13. I agree, but I think there was also some mob mentality in supporting
the administration without reflection or investigation, instead of purposeful reflection.

But yeah, those neocon bullies and goons worked on this since early in the Clinton Administration. A long term plan indeed.

8. In America?
I can't believe this happening in the US. In Iraq or or similer places, yes, but we're supposed to be civilized. This is horrible.

15. I think the part of the world that is now Iraq
has a long history of civilization, and of "being civilized." It was the imperial Brits and the Machiavellian Americans whose machinations turned them into a mess. Iraq didn't even exist as a nation until the Brits decided to create a quagmire--just like they did in India with the India/Pak partition.

9. The whole mentality of death pervades our society...
Sadly, not only Texans act this way, although we've been led to believe they do. Texas gets a bad rap for things like this, but it is the people who are at fault, and some of the "bush mentality" rubs off.
Since this ahppened in TX, where people are "expected" to be of a "Wild West" mentality, it gets mixed reviews. The epople responsible for the death need to be tried quickly, there was no cause for such an extreme response, although the accident is indeed tragic...:(

27. Sadly,...
...the perpetrators were probably predominantly Dems, and this kind of thing isn't all that rare. And the accident was tragic? "Non-life-threatening injuries" don't qualify as tragic; the murder does.

30. It was tragic in that it did not have to happen, and the end result
speaks for itself, as far as tragedy goes....:(

32. Who celebrates Juneteenth?
African-Americans. How do African-Americans largely vote? Dem. Just the facts, interpret them how you will. Even some Dems are susceptible to the mob mentality that enables situations like this.

12. Lack of control of one's environment leads to anxiety and stress
This in turn can explode as anger or rage in circumstances.

We The People are no longer the sovereign of this nation. We have lost control and we don't know where or when it happened. We feel as though we are at the mercy of whatever currently controls our society and thus we all share in the stress this causes.

This results in our society looking to acts of vengeance to alleviate our anxiety. Most of our entertainment reflects this. The media is dominated by shows dedicated to dealing vengeance. We have entire networks predicated on the idea of showing us justice.

So when a the opportunity shows itself a crowd can explode in rage far beyond what would be reasonable. Because everyone is so pumped full of fear, anxiety, and a need for vengeance.

20. Fear, anxiety and a need for vengeance are unfortunately the tools used by
our Corporate Masters to retain control. They've always been a part of human life, of course, and our brief but noble experiment with Democracy is no match for addiction and slavery.

It's just such an ugly thing.

I remember THIS case from a few years ago. Two men murdered under similar circumstances:

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20020804/ai_n12472327

Seven charged with murder in mob beatings

Annie Sweeney
Calling the attacks "brutal, inhumane and vicious," a Cook County judge Saturday ordered two of seven men charged with last week's vigilante murders held without bond.

"If this is their idea of justice, they are in the wrong city," said Judge Nicholas Ford in denying bond to Robert Tucker, 20, and Antonio Fort, 16.

The other suspects also charged Saturday with first-degree murder- -Henry Lawrence, 47; his brother Roosevelt Lawrence, 43; Lamont Motes, 20; James Ousley, 31, and Ricky Lawson, 43--could have bond hearings as soon as today, a Cook County state's attorney's office spokesman said.

At least three of the seven charged with pulling two men from a van and beating them to death are relatives of women injured in the van accident that precipitated the fatal attack, authorities say.
