Due to High Demand, Michael Moore's 'SiCKO' to Open One Week Early in New York City This Friday, June 22nd
Sneak Previews of 'SiCKO' to be Held Around the Country on Saturday, June 23rd

NEW YORK, June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Due to the fantastic reaction SiCKO received at its premieres and pre-release screenings, the overwhelming demand from audiences who want to see the film, and the early reviews from critics, Michael Moore's highly anticipated and entertaining film SiCKO will open in New York City this Friday, June 22nd, one week earlier than originally planned. Sneak previews of SiCKO will be held around the country on the evening of Saturday, June 23rd (see list of cities below).

SiCKO will open exclusively at the AMC- Loews Lincoln Square Theater this Friday, June 22nd -- one week prior to its nationwide release on Friday, June 29th.

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company said, "Last night's standing ovation at the N.Y. Premiere of SiCKO confirmed what we believed to be true since the film's launch in Cannes, which is that audiences love the movie. Ever since the film began generating tremendous word of mouth we have been contemplating opening SiCKO in one theater in NYC and sneaking the film in the top markets across the country and last night validated that plan. Sneak previews for a strong movie like SiCKO are a great marketing tool."

SiCKO is written, directed and produced by Michael Moore. The film is produced by Meghan O'Hara and co-produced by Anne Moore. Kathleen Glynn, Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein serve as executive producers.

ABOUT SiCKO

If you want to stay healthy in America, don't get sick. Following on the heels of his award winning hit "Fahrenheit 9/11" and his Oscar(R) winning film "Bowling for Columbine," acclaimed filmmaker Michael Moore's new documentary sets out to investigate the American healthcare system. Sticking to his tried-and-true one-man approach, Moore sheds light on the complicated medical affairs of individuals and local communities. "Sicko" promises to be every bit as indicting as Moore's previous films.

1. Due to demand? More likely due to the fact that it's been leaked all over the Web, no? n/t

6. Don't know what you're talking about but anything that backfires on Drudge has to be a good thing.,

14. Drudge posted a link so his readers could download an illegal copy
and now it's opening earlier.

Wonder if MM is going to send him a thank you note?

16. Drudge had little to do with that
Most of the people who would/did download probably got it before he posted.

21. I'm also wondering if the fact there's something like 17
"sequels" coming this summer to a multiplex near you added to the movie chains' willingness to open a week early.

If this film makes even what "Fahrenheit 9/11" made (and I predict it will outearn that movie; evidently, "SiCKO" is going to bring people from both sides of the aisle,) it'll be a roaring success for those chains who really need a hit that will draw adults back to the movie theater.

IMHO, YMMV,
Julie

8. Hey, it got them to open a week early.
Who knows the untold millions the Weinsteins (not to mention Moore himself) lost because of all the people who have already seen the movie for free on the Internet over the past few days. (ahem, my hypocritical self included, natch. Of course, I'll still see it in the theaters.)

They all come out early and can be downloaded before the premier is even shown....

On edit: This applies to music as well...

15. Dammit, the closest to here is KC...
I have to wait another week. I'll have to dodge TV segments/boards for a few extra days - I want to see it with a completely clear mind, free of spoilers, etc. It'll be well worth it, though. ;-)

22. This was preplanned, not due to high demand.
Edited on Sat Jun-23-07 01:58 PM by Rosemary2205
I really like Moore and have no trouble with his being a shameless self promoter but COME ON. A month or two ago we were hearing how all the copies of the film had to be spirited away to a secret foreign location to keep the government from confiscating and destroying them all.

BTW -- I have not forgotten the media hype over F911 about how Disney was trying to deny MM his first Amendment rights. -- It certainly worked on getting more people to the theatre.
