Keep up the good work Al!

Great to see him climbing in the polls without spending a dime on his campaign (yet).

44. Not exactly a stealth campaign, but cetainly a non-conventional campaign.
It's early yet, the American people are turned off by the 2 year official campaign season.

I was chatting over the fence with a woman, a single mom who lives next door to one of my rentals the other day. She asked me if I'd seen "An Inconvienent Truth" and I said "no but i want to." She then went on to say that she rarely votes because she usually finds the candidates from both parties to be bozos, but she said she thinks Gore is going to run and she intends to vote for him if he does.

I think that's kind of significant. This person seems fairly intelligent, but not particularly political. For instance, she's never heard of Dennis Kucinich. So the fact that she's energized and looking forward to a Gore presidency was a little surprising and somehow hopeful.

35. No shit, what's he waiting for?
And the big money people are all going to be committed to someone else by September!

Hillary has already raised $50 million, and Obama has probably raised that much as well.
The financial quarterly reporting period ends June 30.

Gore is already down by $50 million if he enters the race July 1st.

How many large "single source" campaign contributions (bribes) has Al Gore accepted from:

*The nations worst polluters?

*The nations Richest HMOs?

*The nations worst War Profiteers?

*BIG Pharma?

*Insurance Providers?

*Global Corporate predators?

*The manufacturers of the War Machine?

*The outsourcers of American Jobs?

*The Political PACS and "Think Tanks" that control our political Parties?

*BIG OIL?

NONE!!!!!

I'm interested!
Go Al!!!!

An outsider late Primary run would be a wonderful slap in the criminal faces of the backroom $power$ brokers who have decreed that Hillary will be the corporate anointed Democratic nominee!!!

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

9. a prediction...
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 04:07 PM by RiverStone
The weekend after Al jumped in the race, I'd predict the amount of $$$ he would receive from the net root community in just one weekend would not only be unprecedented, but would equal or surpass what Hillary's well oiled machine brings in a month.

I mean, I live on a pretty tight budget --- but I'd fork over $50 (maybe more) in a heartbeat to Al's campaign. How many other millions of people, if given a compelling an urgent "call to arms to help Al" would do so with equal speed?

Forgot the special interests and corporate connects - Al would truly be a voice of We The People and not beholden to anybody but We The People! Add Clark or Richardson as V.P. --- it would be a knock out!

61. I actually agree with you on this; but for a reason you may not like:
I don't think he will need any campaign contributions; for the reasons we are all aware of; and it would only enhance his image and help the whole movement if the money ppl want to give him is given to climate change instead. It's a perfect idea any way you slice it.

I even think if he announces he will possibly tell ppl NOT to contribute to him except of their time and effort.

We will see....

38.  He is not interested in running based on his actions...
And he is not running a stealth political campaign. I just read he may be going to India in October or November, and is also planning other appearances surrounding the climate crisis, one that he will be holding in the Canary Islands in September. He is not thinking about polls with this planetary emergency going on, and to keep seeing threads like this appearing on the front page it only validates his book and that people only care about him when they can talk politically in the same sound bite way. This is part of the very process he has fallen out of love with, but it looks like there are those who still will not listen to his own words and think he is some sort of prevaricating politician using this crisis for a political end because they just want to see that Clinton-Gore brawl so bad, and I think that is sad. If he ever decided to change his mind which I don't think he will for this cycle, it would only be if he sees what he is looking to see... seeing people continuing on the same path is not what I think he is talking about.

Not that many even give a damn that he may be going to India, or the Canaries, or that he just came from Greece where he made great strides regarding discussing this crisis with An Inconvenient Truth being given to all of their schools. And of course, the most obvious reason is because I am donor member of this site and can respond in any thread I choose to. So is the inquisition over now?

60. While I have come to agree with you that I sadly don't think he's running,
he's been talking a lot lately less about the environment and more about what ails the democratic process. seems to me he could do a lot about changing that process from within the beltway.

However, I received a solicitation the other day with a form letter in which he writes something like "While the days of campaigning for office are behind me, ..." I take that as a soft way of putting to rest all these rumors and speculation. Which honestly is fine with me - I certainly wouldn't want to run for office and don't blame him for it, either.

53. GORE - OBAMA 2008
Al Gore is the best person for the job, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.

I am dreaming of a Gore-Obama ticket in 2008. But there is no hurry for Gore to enter the race.

I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do. My guess is that the chance of him entering the race is somewhere around 35%.

Gore's current line - "I have no plans to be a candidate" - tells us that right now (today) he has no plans to run. But it doesn't prevent him from changing his plans and making new plans during the coming months.

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book The Assault on Reason, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

It all depends on the circumstances. In September, if the race for the Dem nomination is still wide open and Hillary's campaign is in trouble, it might create the conditions for Gore to enter the race.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

I say that Gore can wait until Sunday November 4th. Exactly one year out from the election, and 10 weeks before Iowa caucuses. Maybe on one of the Sunday TV talk-shows?

Gore would have no problem raising enough money to compete. I'm not worried about the staffing issue. I'm sure there are good people who would quit other campaigns to go and work for Al Gore.

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

And even if Gore refuses to run - I am expecting Wes Clark to announce in September. Either one would shake-up the field and would stand a good chance of winning the nomination.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007

Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.

57. al gore
Gore would have to have 80 percent support from the electorate before he starts. Cuz the Washington press corps would never stand for a Gore presidency. They would slice down that support by at least 20 percent before they got finished with him.

Besides, if Gore runs as a Democrat, he's automatically slaved to K-Street -- unless he's got enough private wealth to finance his own campaign. It would be a same-old same old presidency, shaped by the gun lobby, the Israel lobby, the business lobby, etc.

63. Obama too young-a.
Good qualities, but he is definitely not experienced enough. There is a difference between a candidate like Obama and a JFK, who was entrenched in the political system from infancy.

The VP choice is critical; Al can't afford another mistake like Lieberman.
