Isn't it amazing? Now that the Democrats control Congress Bush has suddenly found a use for his veto pen. This time he's going to veto the incredibly popular bipartisan bill that would expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

I guess his approval ratings aren't low enough for him. Maybe he wants to see them dive into the single digits? More than 65% of Americans support such legislation, although Democratic leaders in Congress admit they probably do not have the requisite 2/3 votes in both Houses to override his veto.

For his next act in his popularity crusade he's planning a baby seal clubbing party on the White House lawn. Pack a picnic, he'll provide the fried bald eagle wings.

And in politics, New York billionaire and Mayor Michael Bloomberg has officially resigned from the Republican Party, paving the way for a presidential campaign as an Independent. You can bet Guiliani isn't too happy about that.

"It seems to me that the name "Scatman" is a great one. you know: after semi-singer and comedian Scatman Crothers.

I keep envision having a son named Scatman. I can imagine everyone he meets saying, 'What a cool name.' Which is good because that way they'll have something to like about him even if his personality is really off-putting. Or if he's shallow or a bully when he's like 13, when he should be getting into punk rock or something. At least they'll think he has a hip name.

Rocco was named after her husband's granddad, so at least it means something, but Tyler and Cole she pulled out of her butt. If Cole had been a girl, he would have been named Madison. I told her at the time she should stick with Madison even for a boy, change Rocco's name to Roosevelt, Polk, or maybe Fillmore and go for a dead President's motif.

Poor Gandolfini. I read awhile ago that he was upset that little kids regarded Tony Soprano as a hero, and that was the reason he wanted to terminate the series. But can anyone imagine an actor more perfectly merged with his character than this one? I feel for him as an actor - but, damn, he was great in the part!
