Kant and Homelessness
I just had a wonderful discussion with someone who was homeless about Kant and the Critique of Pure Reason. For those of you who are not familiar with the book it is generally seen as difficult reading. It is on my reading list and as such I have not yet read it however in our discussion it became apparent that he had read it and was familiar with other works in the same general area of philosophy. It just goes to further show what we should all already know; homelessness is not limited to the “lazy and stupid”.

And I suspect you guys are actually talking about the Critique of *Practical* Reason.

EDIT: A quick anecdote illustrating the difficulty of that text: German philosphy phd students commonly read the (Kemp-Smith) English translation rather than the original German.

Not of being homeless per se. But I suffer from ADhD, Depression, and some short term memory issues. It makes it difficult for me to stay employed (currently out of work). I hope any that have read anything I have had to say realize I am not stupid.

This is the problem in a pure meritocracy. If you only consider the value of a person by what they can produce or do then a lot of people go by the way side. I wish I could maintain focus and avoid emotional pitfalls. But the fact is I can't. And it hurts me in how I can advance in this society.
