"F" You Ralph Nader
Edited on Thu Jun-21-07 08:36 AM by Hawaii Hiker
I saw this yesterday on MSNBC.....In 2000, Gore lost Florida to Bush by 537 votes, of about 5 million cast....Nader received 97,000 votes in Florida, so yeah, that S.O.B. cost Gore the election...

I know Republicans will say Perot gave Clinton WH in 1992, but I totally disagree....The 2000 election was probably the closest in history, Clinton won in 1992 rather handily w/370 electoral votes....

So thanks for nothing Ralph Nader...

2. Ignore the Republican voter fraud which cost Gore 53,000+
It was all Nader's fault. It was always Nader's fault.

Say it with me: Choice at the polls is evil. Dissenters should be put to death. You are either with the Democratic Party 110%, or you hate America (unless you are Joseph Lieberman, who gets a free pass.)

5. Since when has Lieberman gotten a free pass!?
And while voter fraud was definitely an issue, Gore could have STILL won if not for Nader, so I'm not sure how Nader isn't partially responsible here.

9. When has Lieberman gotten a free pass? you ask
You might want to inquire of the many people here in DU who loudly supported him after he turned traitor to the Democratic Party and ran as an independent. You might want to expand your inquiry to include those here in DU who say that we must kiss Lieberman's scrawny butt because he holds the balance of power in the Senate and GOD FORBID! he should decide to caucus with the Repugs (as if that would prove him worthy of Democrat loyalty.) And lastly, you may want to send your question to the DLC and other prominent Democrats such as Hillary Clinton who turned their backs on the duly annointed Democratic candidate, Ned Lamont, and instead worked hard to get Lieberman re-elected after he lost the primary.

You would not call that a "free pass?"

And Nader was irrelevant in 2000 and 2004. The Democratic leadership has admitted this. The only people who still piss and moan about Nader are those who refuse to look at the many failings of the Democratic Party and how the party consistently refuses to act as the electorate wants them to act. When the party's own failures costs them at the polls, when it drives potential voters away because they know the platform and the campaign rhetoric is a load of election year shit, it is counterproductive to whine about the third parties.

12. Personally, I like being in the majority.
So while I don't want to kiss his ass, we do need to make sure he doesn't jump ship. You seem to already forget how bad it was under Republicans. The prominent Dems you mentioned realized Lamont didn't have a shot in hell of winning in the general election, and indeed he did not.

And I'm oh so happy you speak for the electorate. That 1% or so that voted for Nader must represent the "real" Democrats, in your opinion. I suppose perhaps we should change everything in our platform in order to appease that 1%, and toss away the other 50%. Great idea. :eyes:

3. Oh, and he wants to "help" us by running again.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen and children, the obtuse, preening, hypocritical, narcissistic Ralph Nader wishes to run for president again, thereby assisting in the promotion of a progressive agenda...not one whit. Read the story in Politico.com, and do read the comments section.

There are few things in life that are certain, but one thing you can bank on: 2 percent of the vote in a presidential election gives you 0 percent of the power. If Nader truly were interested in promoting a progressive agenda -- passing laws, making policy, etc. -- he would take actions that would accomplish said goal. That would require actions such as swaying public opinion, electing candidates who share his goals, and so forth. Showing up every four years to kvetch accomplishes nothing.

8. Ralph Nader, election tampering, a cowardly congress, the Supreme Court...
If only it WERE just Ralph (for whom I've lost all respect), but if that's all you blame for the loss, you aren't paying attention.

14. Look, he has every right to run for the presidency,
I mean, there are alot of candiates on both sides this year ie(Brownback, Huckabee, Hunter, Paul, Gravel, etc.) that have ZERO chance, but they are running..However, there comes a time when the pipe dream must end, Nader had every right to run & I'm not complaining about that, but there was NO reason for him TO BE ON the ballot in Nov. 2000....

And trust me, I am paying attention...

15. The election was stolen
It had nothing to do with Nader...As many votes as they needed to win were not going to be counted.
