Justice official said to have questioned 'loyalty' of McCain voterRAW STORY
Published: Thursday June 21, 2007

A Justice Department official reportedly questioned the "loyalty" of a lawyer working in the civil rights division because he wasn't happy with a vote she once cast, according to a front page article in Thursday's Washington Post. But the lawyer's vote didn't go to a Democrat; it went to Republican Senator John McCain (R-AZ) who hasn't always seen eye to eye with the Bush Administration.

The article continues, "Schlozman ordered supervisors to tell the women that they had performance problems or that the office was overstaffed. But one lawyer, Conor Dugan, told colleagues that the recent Bush appointee had confided that his real motive was to 'make room for some good Americans' in that high-impact office, according to four lawyers who said they heard the account from Dugan."

In another politically tinged conversation recounted by former colleagues, Schlozman asked a supervisor if a career lawyer who had voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a onetime political rival of President Bush, could still be trusted," Leonnig writes.

Two weeks ago, Nick Juliano reported for RAW STORY that Schlozman admitted to congressional investigators, that he had boasted about his success in hiring Republicans or conservatives into career attorney positions within the department.
