a guest (journalist- didn't catch her name) just said on Thom Hartmann's show. She said her sources were extremely close to Gore, people who would know. She said that last month Gore was closer to considering a run, than he is now. But, he is still mulling it over.

Don't shoot the messenger. Gore is the only candidate I have real real real enthusiasm for- and he's not a candidate.

I am thinking that we need leadership outside of the government, which is overly influenced by huge corporations, many of which are global corporations which have little loyalty to the US-except for things like free military assistance to protect their global interests.

I think we are in the position of India when it was under British rule. It needed a Mohatma Gandhi to raise the moral issues.

5. I love him too, and a world with President Gore would be so wonderful

...but I also wonder whether there'd be a silver lining to his not running, in that right now he's not really subject to a lot of criticism from anybody who matters. Once he declared his candidacy the talking heads would be free to snark away. Right now he has a lot of clout and a lot of respect and probably about as much influence--though indirect rather than direct--on the issue of global warming as he could have as president. And with his new book, I think he really is an obvious choice to be our party's moral leader.

After his personal nightmare of the 2000 election and his impressive recovery (who among us could bounce back from having the presidency stolen out from under us?), I would like to see his new and burnished reputation continue to be the way he's thought of, just for his own sake as well as for the benefit of any other issue he lends his name to.

On the other hand, a Gore/Clark ticket would be a dream come true and a pretty much unstoppable team in 2008.

7. I don't, for two reasons:

1) He's worth more on the fence right now, well in advance of any primaries. While it'd be nice to have a firm, we-know-for-sure decision in our own minds, he attracts more attention and, frankly, respect so long as he's officially undeclared.

2) Dammit, he's earned the right to do as he pleases. If he wants to march in at the last possible minute and start making a run at the first primaries, vaya con dios, amigo.

He's rapidly running out of time to jump in the race and still have the potential to win. Hil has fairly solid leads in most states and a whole hell of a lot of positive momentum. If Al waits too long, it could be too late for him to catch Hil.

I don't really think he's going to run. I think this whole wooing process has done great things for him and for us, but I don't think he wants to go through that crap again. Of course he would if he thought it were the best thing for himself, his family and his country. But if I'm betting, I don't put money down on him running.

Gore is this indecisive about such a critical moment/decision in our history? No, seems out of character.

some serious campaign/organizational groundwork by now (or at least gathering a group of consultants, aides, pollsters, etc.--like Bloomberg has been doing for two years!).

18. I would love to have Al Gore in the race

but if he decides against it I hope he doesn't wait so long to make that decision that it will be too late for Wes Clark to enter. I want to vote for one of those two men for President. I want at least one of those two men to be a central part of the public debate that the primary campaign brings. Clark has definately not closed the door on running, but if too many players who have Gore as their first choice withold encouragement that they might otherwise have given Clark to run, because they are hoping Gore still will run, only to later find that Gore will not run, it could be too late for Clark then to jump in. I really hope that does not happen. As a strong Clark supporter I can accept that Gore has the clearest shot at the nomination if he wants to fight for it, and I would be happy to support Gore instead of Clark if Gore is the one who seizes the opportunity.

I am sure that a lot of Clark's support would swing behind Gore if he announced and Clark didn't. I know that Gore can wait longer to decide than Clark, he could probably enter the race in mid Fall and still have a decent chance of winning. But please Al, don't keep the door cracked and then back away at the very last minute leaving those of us who honor both you and Clark forced to find someone in the current announced field to reluctantly vote for instead.
