Americans Unready to Revolt, Despite Revolting Conditions
http://www.atlanticfreepress.com/content/view/1798/81/
The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal national poll results vividly show a population incredibly dissatisfied with their nation’s political system. In other countries in other times such a depressing level of confidence in government would send a signal to those running the government that a major upheaval is imminent. But not here in the USA. Why?

On the economic front, nearly twice as many people think the U.S. is more hurt than helped by the global economy (48 to 25 percent). Globalization does not spread wealth; it channels it to the wealthy, making billionaires out of millionaires.

I have long asserted that Americans live in a delusional democracy with delusional prosperity and these and loads of other data support this view. There is a super wealthy and politically powerful Upper Class that is literally raping the nation. Meanwhile, the huge Lower Class continues to lose economic ground while their elected representatives sell them out to benefit the Upper Class. Yet no rational person thinks that a large fraction of the population is ready to rise up in revolt against the evil status quo political-economic system that so clearly is not serving the interests of the overwhelming majority of Americans. Why not?

2. Middle class comfort
There may be millions of impoverished citizens, but there are many more people who live somewhat comfortably in the middle class. I think the situation is just a ticking time bomb as the middle class shrinks and the lower class grows.

4. We still have food on the table
While things can be hard at times, it isn't nearly bad enough for a revolt.

6. F-E-A-R

In a country where the cops have a known history of shooting protestors
on the spot, you don't get too much protest.

8. Yep. And with conspiracy laws what they are,
it's best to keep the mouth SHUT.

Not that I would ever suggest that anything
isn't perfect. Not me.

7. we all need someone to blame..
but I don't know what these people want. I guess they expect their neighbors to forgo their jobs, their family, and their thinly held grasp on life to go camp out in D.C. and make a statement that they will hopefully see on their television, in the comfort of their living room. Of course, if CNN doesn't report it they might deny the event happened, or blame the participants for not acting in a more 'media' friendly way. Do they want violence like the Rodney King riots? will that make them feel better to see some one else's battered and bloodied bodies? I guess whatever it is their seeking...in time, they will find. I wonder who they will blame then?

10. If the cost of living was like India's, then government support would be MUCH higher.

That's why their middle class is building* and ours is shrinking.

* with considerable help from America's corporate sect; American people are not happy with the government because our government is not regulating offshoring and allowing the corporate sect to train non-Americans before training Americans... Or if we should go educate ourselves, how come some companies are giving free training or training at highly reduced cost to others?

Wait and see. Kinda pointless to fight what cannot be controlled anyway. (As my counselor says; "radical acceptance".)

11. Any potential revolution leaders in this country are locked up in long-term incarceration
The ruling class controls the population by having the highest incarceration rate of any so-called democracy. Though to take it the streets when you're in a max security slammer.

14. The technology revolution has sucked the free time most Americans used to have
Edited on Fri Jun-22-07 10:08 AM by KoKo01
to focus on their community and national events. Now busy families work two and three jobs and struggle with day care and after school sports and activities for their kids. Going through the drive in windows for food on the way to and from work and activities and coming home and handling e-mails and more work has left Americans exhausted. Also learning all the technology has sapped our brains and taken time away from activities that would lead to community organizing and reading time that one needs to keep informed.

That's one part...imho...anyway. The rest is the Corporate Media which doesn't INFORM.

18. Revolt?? People know how bad things are and how corrupt the govt.
is and they continue to reelect the same corrupt idiots to office.
They believe the bullshit of campaign rhetoric and never look back
at what their corrupt representative, (and I use the term very loosely)
has done in their name.

They are comfortably numb, and don't really give a shit.

19. It's because we have a two-party system ...
... the Villain Party and the Rescuer Party. On this, virtually every Victimized Voter agrees. They just flip the roles according to whether they're Big-Endians or Little-Endians. Neither party is willing to dispel the meme.
