Working To End the War

Working Assets has been working tirelessly over the past 4 years to bring an end to the war in Iraq -- both on our own and in cooperation with several anti-war organizations & coalitions. Now, Congress is finally beginning to show that it is ready to take on this issue. Undaunted by Bush's recent veto of the supplemental appropriations bill that had a timeline for troop redeployment out of Iraq attached to it, Senator Harry Reid has indicated that up to four votes focused on Iraq may come up in the Senate within the next couple weeks -- and Congress is gearing up for a showdown in September, when reports on the results of Bush's escalation are expected.

To keep the pressure on through the summer and leading up to September, our partners at Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI) have hired and deployed almost 100 grassroots organizers in a campaign they are calling "Iraq Summer." For the next few months, these activists will be making life very difficult for 40 representatives and senators who continue to foolishly support Bush's failed occupation. Working Assets has donated the phones and wireless service that the Iraq Summer organizers will be using to stay connected and do this important work (check out this photo of the organizers with our phones). Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of this campaign.
