Giuliani's Best Friend Is An Accused Child-Molester. Fer fuck's sake...
... Am I the last one to know this?

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2007/06/22/placa/index.html?source=rss

"Giuliani employs his childhood friend Monsignor Alan Placa as a consultant at Giuliani Partners despite a 2003 Suffolk County, N.Y., grand jury report that accuses Placa of sexually abusing children, as well as helping cover up the sexual abuse of children by other priests. Placa, who was part of a three-person team that handled allegations of abuse by clergy for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, is referred to as Priest F in the grand jury report. The report summarizes the testimony of multiple alleged victims of Priest F, and then notes, "Ironically, Priest F would later become instrumental in the development of Diocesan policy in response to allegations of sexual abuse of children by priests.""

1. Ok this is way worse than I originally thought... read the whole linked article!
Edited on Fri Jun-22-07 01:07 AM by Kagemusha
The point is not that Giuliani was close to a priest who was involved in this stuff. The point is that the priest was suspended from his duties FIVE YEARS AGO, and Giuliani Partners employs him TO THIS DAY as a consultant. The priest has not been defrocked.

Golden parachute for a priest who not only is suspected of molesting kids, but being instrumental in protecting other priests who molested kids.

3. This guy took the wrong turn in such a big way.
When he was the Federal prosecutor in NYC, he put away 4 of the 5 major job bosses. That took guts and it did a lot of good. Then he became major and took credit for what was happening anyway. The age group that committed the most crimes in NYC took a big drop when he got in, thus major crimes went down. A major portion - 60-70% of the crime decrease was due to this demographic factor. The rest was due to his police chief, who he hounded out of town. It got worse as time went on with people like Kerick. Now this. It's beyond disgusting, it immediately disqualifies him for any office or any business for that matter. What would it take to disqualify someone from serving Rudy?

6. Yeah, but he's a Priest, so it doesn't *really* count. Don't you know? The Church gets to play

by different rules than everyone else.

"child molesters" are creepy dudes who hang out by playgrounds in vans with tinted windows. They're "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull. They're not kindly old Father McFondlefingers or his enablers in the Vatican hierarchy. Regular people who covered up for pedophiles and conspired to move them around and help them evade prosecution (and even have access to more kids) would be brought up on criminal conspiracy charges. Regular organizations that engaged in that kind of crap would be run out of every town in this country by pitchfork-wielding, angry townsfolk.

The Church gets to play by different rules.

11. What's sad is, Guiliani's support for abortion rights and legal contraception will hurt him far more
with the GOP's fundy whackjob, knuckle-dragger base than hanging out with Pedophile Priests ever could.

Group Wants Giuliani Priest Pal Fired
By FRANK ELTMAN
Associated Press Writer

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- Advocates for victims of abuse by Catholic clergy
on Friday urged presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani to fire a priest
who was suspended from the church and then hired by the ex-mayor's
security consulting business.

A spokeswoman for Giuliani said the firm had no plans to fire Monsignor
Alan Placa.

Placa, a childhood friend of Giuliani's, has defended himself for years
over allegations in a 2003 Suffolk County grand jury report that detailed
decades-old abuses by priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, N.Y.

"There's ample evidence showing that Placa consistently protected
predators, shrewdly deceived victims, and covered up horrific clergy sex
crimes," said a statement from David Clohessy, national director of the
Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. SNAP also contends that
he abused children.

15. Now, exactly what kind of "consulting" can a monsignor do? Eh?
My bet is that that's just euphemism for having him on the dole and taking a tax break for it.
