FYI: I just fixed my "Cookie Problem" I was having here with Firefox, might be a bug? |
|
I think this happened after I did the Firefox "update" from ver. 2.0.0.3 to ver. 2.0.0.4, I suddenly was logged out of DU, when I tried to log on yesterday.
So I requested a new DU password. But, when I tried to use it, I got an error message page that said there was a "Cookie Problem."
So, then I did all the things that usually fix a problem like this (clear browser cache, deleted DU's cookies, cleared Internet Temp files, etc.),but nothing worked.
I knew it had to be a problem within Firefox because my other browsers still worked fine, so after a day of frustration, I just started going thought all the stuff in the Options menu again, and finally found it!
I found that, some how, Democraticunderground.com was now in my "Exceptions" list as a site to block Cookies from.
If you are having a similar problem click on Tools>Options>Privacy>Exceptions...
Then scroll down the list to the entry for Democraticunderground.com and delete it.
Then go back to the Log on page and try again, it should now work.
Anyway, I hope this helps. If you have this problem, let me know here so we can report this as a bug to Mozilla Firefox.:hi:

1. I have been running 2.0.0.4 and never a problem with cookies |

But Firefox like a lot of software have keyboard shortcuts and you may have hit one that added the current site to the blocked list.

4. That's very possible, but what I think might also have happened is... |

...when I went and deleted some cookies (including DU's) they ended up in the Firefox "exceptions" list.
I say might, because I can't remember exactly where it was that I deleted the DU cookie. I think it was within Firefox, but I have short term memory problems, so I can't say I'm 100% sure.
But I do know for sure that some of the other cookies I deleted, while trying to fix this, also ended up in the "exceptions" list, which is why I'm thinking this might be a bug that needs fixing.
I did recently change my Cookie acceptance policy so that I'm asked what to do about "Third-party" cookies, so maybe it's something weird there too. I'm not sure.
I'm just throwing this discussion out there to see if anyone else is having (or had) the same problem.

2. I had a few problems to iron out as well..... |

when I updated Firefox but your DU problem wasn't among them. Firefox is still infinitely better than IE though. Anything from Microsloth has a host of problems attached to it and their products are to avoided whenever possible in my opinion. I cut my teeth on windows though but have seriously been considering a Mac for my next computer purchase. I'm 57 but I think I can still "learn new tricks" and saying goodbye to Microsloth would be worth the effort, I think. :)

3. Firefox addon "Noscript" is fantastic and recommended - but you must authorize DU in it n/t |
