1. I'll call mine the NRA Theory:
Guns don't commit crimes, people do.

Well, people with guns, usually. But, it is the people, right? I mean that's why they call them criminals. And that's why they don't send the gun to jail along with the criminal.

Yup, that's my theory! --------- Guns don't commit crimes, people do.

TC

Note to the NRA: I've met your demands. I wrote what you said. Please release my family and my dog unharmed, as you promised. Thank you.

3. Maybe it is socialised medicine? Could it be that simple?
Canada has 1/10 the US's population and the same demographics.Yet the crime rate is way higher. ?

7. Most people who are in prison didn't use guns in their crimes
And all prisoners are there because of their behavior.

11. I agree with your first sentence, but not your second.
A cursory look will show you that race and poverty are a much bigger factor than behavior.

2. It has the highest percentage of population who are excluded
from the society and have no stake in it and nothing to do but lash out at it.

We pay a high price for our need to feel superior. We don't do anything to make sure everybody has a place in this society. Then we cry alot that the outcasts don't just sit there and accept it. It's quite hypocritical. I've met many Americans who can't feel happy and enjoy the comforts of life without being able to enjoy them in front of someone who doesn't have them.

10. It's Puritanism
We're supposed to lead a stylized life that combines ostentatious prosperity with superhuman self-denial. Anyone who can't cut it gets put up as an example/wankbait for the hypocritical sadists in charge.

My ancestors were bashing the heads of these fanatics with voulge and claymore, and it puzzles me that I ended up being born in the country they founded.

Maybe I'm here to bash a few heads myself. Metaphorically, of course. ;)

5. Oh I don't know.
Lack of health care, lack of social services, massive ghettos for ethnic minorities where education and employment is utterly neglected by the powers that be...

6. We probly aren't #1 in crime.
Just in punishment. We have more people in prison per capita than anybody, with a little over 2 million behind bars (not even counting those in jail).

Actually, I don't know what the actual crime comparison numbers are at present. We lead in some categories & lag in others. How do you balance burglaries against incidents of domestic violence? Also, some things are illegal here that aren't in some other countries. For example, some countries don't have underage drinking laws.

8. Greatest inequality, highest crime
You can see that trend over time in America and geographically vs. other developed countries.

12. Well,...because the government is the most oppressive and abusive of its people,...
,...on behalf of the most wealthy.

WE ARE, FIRST AND FOREMOST, A CAPITALIST SOCIETY,...NOT NOT NOT A DEMOCRATIC ONE.

Hence, we have the greatest prison population, the greatest rate of crime, the high rate of untreated medical conditions, the highest rate of chemical abuse, the aweful rate of domestic abuse, the horrific rate of poverty, the INCREDIBLE RATE OF PROFITEERING at the top echelons of this 'place',...etc.

questions?
