The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

1. Don't call me an alien,
Don't call me an alien,
because I was born far away,
or because the land I came from
has a different name.

Don't call me an alien,
because a different bosom fed me
or because my childhood was cradled
by a different language and stories.

Don't call me an alien,
if the love of a mother,
illuminated us both
with songs and kisses
and dreamth of us
while holding us close.

Don't call me an alien
or wonder where I came from,
better to know where we are going,
or where time will take us.

Don't call me an alien,
because your bread and your hearth,
becalm my hunger and cold,
and your roof protects me.

Don't call me a alien,
your wheat is like mine,
your hand like mine,
your fire looks like mine
and hunger never warns
when it changes owners.

Don't call me an alien,
because the road brought me here,
because I was born elsewhere,
because I've seen other seas.

For when I left a different port,
through waving handkerchiefs
and clouded eyes
of those left behind
all goodbyes looked the same.
Friends still call our names
and their prayers are the same
as is the love of the one
that dreams for our return.

Don't call me an alien,
we have the same yell,
and the same ancient weariness
that drags every human being
from the depths of a time,
when there were no borders
before they came,
those that divide and kill,
those that rob and lie
the ones that sold our dreams,
they are the ones who invented
this word; alien.

Don't call me an alien
it is a sad word,
it is a cold word,
that smells of lost memories and exile.

Don't call me an alien,
see your child and mine
how they run hand in hand
to the end of the road.

Don't call them alien,
they know nothing of languages
or limits or flags,
see them climb to the sky
with a fleeting dove smile
that joins them in flight.

Don't call me an alien,
think of your brother and mine,
bodies riddled with bullets
kissing death on the ground.
They were not aliens,
they knew each other always
through eternal liberty
and died as free men as well.

Don't call me an alien,
look me well in the eye,
much beyond hatred,
or ego, or fear,
and you will see I am a man,
how can I be an alien.
Don't call me an alien.

No me llames extranjero /Rafael Amor, interpretado por Alberto Cortés y Facundo Cabral/

No me llames extranjero,
porque haya nacido lejos,
o porque tenga otro nombre
la tierra de donde vengo.

No me llames extranjero,
porque fue distinto el seno
o porque acunó mi infancia
otro idioma de los cuentos.

No me llames extranjero
si en el amor de una madre,
tuvimos la misma luz
en el canto y en el beso,
con que nos sueñan iguales
las madres contra su pecho.

No me llames extranjero,
ni pienses de dónde vengo,
mejor saber dónde vamos,
a dónde nos lleva el tiempo.
