Iraqis to Bush: “You have left us with nothing”

By Mike Whitney

"
snip// but please read the whole thing...

When it got bombed, I asked Aziz who knows this mosque better than anyone else, who was behind it. He replied matter of factly as if he knew it all along :" Mahdi of Iran, Mossad and the Americans."... And I believe Aziz for he knows.

And instead of sweets falling as a good omen, falling debris buried the wounded...And instead of sacred chants uniting with the sunset, the cries of mourning...

What have you done?
Not only have you smashed my country into tiny pieces.
Not only have you slaughtered my people.
Not only have you snatched my loved ones, my family, my friends, away from me.
Not only have you destroyed our homes.
Not only have you exiled thousands of us.
But you have also managed to shatter my memories, pull them out from their roots, like some unwanted weed.
You have managed to reach the only sacred place I had left.
The only place I had jealously safeguarded, secretly held in silence, lest you should find out about it.
But you even managed to penetrate that too.
Leaving me with nothing...
Leaving me with absolutely nothing but this pen and paper and a full moon staring coldly back at me.

We have destroyed Iraq and left the people with nothing. The American people need to know this.

8. in our name, and with our money. If you pay any taxes at all, you can be sure
that a certain percentage of that tax has been used to bring harm or death to an Iraqi person somewhere.

You paid for it, as did I, or anyone else who has paid taxes.

It's depressing and tragic and wildly unnecessary. :-(

5. What we have done...
even though many of us were against it, is to destroy an ancient culture, and bring death and despair to Iraq's citizens. The weight of this sin sits on my chest like a bag of sand, and sometimes, I feel that I can't breathe. Sometimes, I'm forced to leave a store before buying groceries, because the abundance displayed is such a contrast to those in Iraq who can't get food due to curfews, and lack of work.

I am 64. I love so much my grandchildren, and great-nephews. I try to imagine what it must be like for an Iraqi woman of my age to have lost sons, brothers, nephews, to this barbaric violence imposed on Iraq by a mental midget, who is also a sociopath.

The despair those sisters of mine must feel chokes me. I can only too well imagine what I would feel, if my own loved ones were facing the same traumas. I feel rage, and helplessness, when I think about Iraqi women my age. By now, we should be able to sit back, and love and spoil the children in our family, and the children of our friends. Instead, in Iraq, women pray merely for survival.

At one time, the mantra regarding Bill Clinton was "what will we tell the children?". Now, it should be, how can we ever expect our children to forgive us for the way we have allowed the world to go to shambles, and ruins? How could we have stood by, and let all of this atrocity happen?

It is more than just enough, it is a massive, forceful change that will, if it's not stopped, forever change us from people who err, but at least try to do good, to a people who scoff at good, and embrace a culture of bigotry, greed, and arrogance. That is not a world I care to inhabit.

7. The "Booosh" Legacy
I imagine the next time I'm in Madame Tusaud's, I expect to see booshie boy's wax figure next to that of Hitler, Stalin and Atilla the Hun. His "legacy" will be one that will be veiwed, especially in the Arab world, as being a ruthless butcher...the man who brought death and suffering to millions around the world. They won't blame bin Laden, they'll blame booshie and America.

The sad thing is this country is so myopic to the rest of the world, what is happening to our image around the world isn't even resonating here. We still live in an Americo-centric bubble where we have some special status that makes us somehow intellectually and morally superior to all...and that everything that happens in the world is always viewed only in terms of how it affects us...not based on the cultures and situations of others. Call it the "ugly American".

While we have destroyed Iraq literally...we've destroyed what was left of our national soul in the process. The fear of some brown-skinned people flying airplanes into our heads has pushed us over the deep edge...and the damage will take generations to heal.

15. It breaks my heart what the bush* regime has done to the Iraqi
who btw hadn't done anything to us, nothing at all. At this point in time I bet the Iraqi wish they would just take bushco's* oil and get the hell out of their country, after all they were surviving much better than they are now without much personal benifit from cheneys* oil under their sand.

IMPEACH the whole lot of the warmongers
