I am for it.
I grew up proud of this country, believing we strove for the right. Hell, we messed up at times, but we tried to do the right thing mostly.
That is a large part of America for me, trying to do the right thing even if it doesn't pan out.
Impeachment, I think, says that we as a people do not condone what has been done in our names. We do not condone torture. We do not condone pre-emptive warfare. We do not condone falsifying data. And we do not mean to hurt the people who can least suffer it. Impeachment may lead nowhere, but it will, at least, state what we believe in, and I think a statement along those lines is sorely missing.

2. The IMPEACHMENT thing is, frankly, the ONLY thing. |

I am for it, too. Nice concluding sentence, also: "IMPEACHMENT mahy lead nowhere, but it will, at least, state what we believe in, and I think a statement along those lines is sorely missing." NICELY put, frustrated_lefty! SO true!

Something happens (!!!) in 2008 and a repug is in the White House. They will pick up where this admin left off and then add some more assaults on the Consititution and Bill of Rights. The Executive Branch will be absolutely above the law. This is a set up for the future and it has to be stopped. Impeachment is imperative.

6. How will we get 67 votes for it in the Senate? |
|
I mean, we could proceed and possibly pass it in the House.
Should we go for it even if we don't have the votes to get it through?
Should we go for it even if we can only get rid of Bush and not Cheney?

7. Somehow 17 Repugnicans Are The Problem... |
|

Seems the rush to impeach and not convict is hypnotic...you must impeach, you must impeach. Yep, there aren't the 67 votes and an impeachment without a conviction accomplishes ZERO...less than Zero. Impeachment didn't stop Bill Clinton from launching the air war in Kosovo and an impeachment without a conviction will not stop boooshie and his war for profit...if anything, it may accelerate it as he will feel "bulletproof". And that doesn't even mention the corporate media and the games they'll play to divide and polazrize...framing Democrats as first attempting to "overthrow an election" and then, when the votes to convict aren't there...how inept and incompetent they are.
I'll keep saying it...I'm for JUSTICE...and not just picking two figureheads...I want ALL who have committed crimes to be held accountable in criminal proceedings...not some political reality show run by a bunch of partisan hacks who put party ahead of country.
If there were the 17 votes on the GOOP sides...17 Repugnicans with a sense of national interest over party, I'd be rooting for boooshie's head as loud as anyone, but that's not gonna happen. And there's nothing, short of removing these Repugnicans, that would change a thing.
I'd rather get the real goods...find the real criminality, not some political showtrial. Now if you're just satisfied with slapping boooshie's hand and sending him home without dinner, then that's what impeachment will get you...nothing more. Not without 17 Repugnicans...period.
In the meantime, dozens of the real crooks in this regime will slip away due to "impeachment fatigue"...diverting attention and resources from the ongoing investigations that are just starting to get to the real criminal activities and enterprises of this regime.
It's not that some of us don't want to be rid of this regime yeseterday...it's just if you're going to shoot the king, you shoot to kill. Anything less will be viewed as a major loss and nothing will be accomplished.

9. So, you're saying even if doesn't look like we can win |
|
Our leadership should file the impeachment charges anyway?
I do think that will be hard sledding to get that passed. After all those 17 Republicans have been voting to keep the Iraq War going and fully funded and most times with mendacity.
It's hard to believe they will see the light on impeachment.

with our Dem leadership is they are timid about stating the case. If put in accurate and stark terms, if politicians can openly express their shame for what has been done in our name, then the people will get behind the housecleaning. There are many people disgusted with the crimes that have been committed in our name and will likely get behind a leader.
The partisan battle is in the government - why do our Dems continue to play the game. They should be reaching out to the people of this country instead of lobbing bombs across the aisle.
Nixon resigned because the people wanted him out and Repubs could no longer stand with him.
