Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Calif.) has established a legal expense trust to pay for expenses associated with an FBI review of his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. ...

“Rep. Feeney considers this an embarrassing episode in his 17-year career as an elected official and an expensive lesson for him as a public servant,” according to a written statement Feeney’s office released at the time. “The Justice Department has contacted Rep. Feeney to request more information regarding this matter and he is pleased to voluntarily cooperate.”

Feeney was cited as “Representative #3” in a Department of Justice document charging Mark Zachares, a former House aide, with helping Abramoff in his conspiracy to defraud the public.

In the document, Feeney was mentioned as attending the same 2003 golfing trip to Scotland as Zachares. Former GOP Reps. Tom DeLay (Texas) and Bob Ney (Ohio), who both resigned last year, also traveled to Scotland with Abramoff on separate trips.

1. Not that this is your mistake, but...
Tom Feeney is from Florida. I guess an editor at The Hill is asleep at the wheel.

2. Yeah. They got the newspaper right! Sort of funny, really. Cunningham confusion!
It's that Orange County--Falwell--Cunningham nexus of corruption that's the cause of all the confusion, no doubt.

3. I thought the same thing -- they were thinking of Cunningham
It's gotten to the point where it's "insert sleezy, crooked Abramoff buddy's name here" for these stories.

I only caught it because I have the misfortune of being one of Feeney's constituents.

4. It is a dizzying array of malfeasance. Ohio, Florida, So. Cal. and the South

seem to be hot spots. You can hardly fault the writer given the number of scandals and crooks. It is a dificult task to just try to keep track of it all.
