STAB IN THE BACK WATCH....Here's the latest from Instapundit, in its entirety:

IN THE MAIL: Col. Buzz Patterson's War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror.

I don't think that the left wants to lose the war on terror, exactly — they just want Bush to lose the war on terror. I suspect, however, that Patterson's theme is one that we'll hear more in the future, especially if things go badly in Iraq.

Oh yes indeedy, I too expect we'll be hearing more of this in the future, especially if things go badly in Iraq. Lots more.

You can almost smell the stink of desperation from the pro-war crowd. The next couple of years is going to be a nonstop frenzy of books, articles, TV shows, op-eds, radio segments, blog posts, and white papers about how everyone except George Bush and his enablers were responsible for our catastrophe in the Middle East. Anyone will do, as long as it's not them.

from the comment section:

While your general point is correct, Kevin, your specific one - that anyone will do, is not.

Much of the impetus behind the Iraq War and the so-called "War on Terror" has not been to respond to any perceived or real foreign threat. Rather, it has been to settle domestic scores dating from the '60's.

The reason why they blame the "liberals" is precisely because the liberals are the real or perceived villains of the '60's.

All of which is rather odd, when we consider that the '60's are as distant from today's world as the Civil War was from the Progressive Era.

Which suggests that one of our basic problems is that we have been unable to move on.

(We had some great times in the 60s....drugs, sex, rock and roll. Is this really the price we have to pay? The right wing starting their own wars so they can prove we were wrong to want out of Vietnam? Oh yeah, they did a great job this time!)

2. It's not about the 60s
The Republicans grabbed power after FDR by seeing a "commie" everywhere. The Republicans use liberals
becuz "commie" was old hat and they needed another straw man to attack. They can't win on their own charm, no way, no how.

3. The Mistake Made by Democrats is the willingness
to cower about the 60 and accept revisionist history of
the Republicans. Yes, some enjoyed Sex, Rock and Roll and Drugs.

It is immoral to accept this picture as the only picture of the
60s.

When in the hell are you guys/gals going to stand up and defend
yourselves.

Those Pesky War Protesters with their sit ins, teach ins yes in
some cases riots... THEY WERE RIGHT. The VietNam War was wrong.
History has proven the Flower Children, Hippies, Yippies Correct.

Think of the accomplishments and take a bow, for God's Sake.
Civil Rights Legislation

Medicare which changed for the better--the lives our older citizens.

War Against Poverty---Yes, you won. We Have A Middle Class
and Upper Middle Class in the Black Community. This would
never have happened without the War on Poverty. Blacks were
able to attend colleges and universities--Ivy League Schools.
More to be done. but Gosh look at what has been accomplished.

The 60s produced GOOD--You wimps stop letting the GOP
smear the 60s.

When people today say the country is on the wrong track.
Perhaps we need a little 60s Gumption.
