Demonized but Determined

We liberals sure take a pounding sometimes. Conservatives are all too happy to call us traitors (project much?) or suggest that if we don't like America, we should just leave, ignoring the fact that, if left to grow and fester, THEIR ideology would create a nation very few people would want to live in anyway.

We fight the good fight because we want to see a better world, and would like, against all hope, to leave a planet to our children and grandchildren that's actually worth living on. The conservatives and their ilk find it difficult to see beyond the next fiscal quarter, or, conversely, are simply waiting for the (problematic on a whole 'nother level) "Rapture."

Though I think humanity's future is out there, amongst the stars, I believe that, for now, we have no greater obligation than to this world that's our home. To this world, and everything that lives on it, including the rest of humanity.

It never ceases to amaze me that they remain so deliberately blind to this fact. We have to live here. And what's more, our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their progeny ALSO have to live here.

It's the effective equivilent of taking a dump in your living room and insisting that it stay there in perpetuity. Totally beyond my understanding.

So while they call us names, we are forced to deal with their messes and work to clean up behind them as if we were the parents and they the undisciplined toddlers. And they have the temerity to insult US?

I'd like to say the irony was delicious, but, instead, it's just acidic.
