It is really time to take to the streets. Voter/citizen apathy is really |
|
distressing. People tell me that they are not up for political activism yet..."too early" they say and I see the country slipping away...before the 2008 elections...slipping away now...with every day. I think people don't want to believe how bad things are and how the stealth Bush/Cheney crowd is setting things up so that, by 2008, there will be nothing that can be done. This country is dream walking and Congress and the candidates are marching right along. We simply can't have a VP who pronounces that he is not accountable to anything or anybody. Outrageous! They are really sneaking up on US but with jack boots...you can hear them coming if you listen. So get your signs, make your signs. Get in the Town square, start yelling about this...not here at DU, there, in your community. Start talking to people...one if by land, two if by sea...make the long ride every damn day or there won't be anything left to vote for in 2008. I really believe this, we are in the end of days for this democracy and we have to start right now, not with talk and endless bitching, but with action, every damn day. This democracy is not on auto pilot like we all thought when we were kids in civics class. This country needs our immediate attention or it's going to become something we will all regret.

1. I think talking is more important than taking to the streets. |

I agree - not talking to people on DU, they already agree, but talking to everyone else.
I remember the street demonstrations before the Iraq War. I knew then, even when I was marching in the street that it was absolutely meaningless. No one was paying attention.
People tend to ignore street demonstrations, they ignore pamphlets that are put in their mailboxes and doorways. I have found that most people, people that surprise me, are willing to listen now. Most people know that bush is an incompetent jerk. Telling them how incompetent, tying his policies to the rest of the repukes is important.
In spite of all that, I have promised myself that if they invade and/or bomb Iran, I will stop going to work. Again, I'm not sure that I would just participate in street demonstrations. I agree that we have to act. But, we have to take effective action.

2. Until they feel represented by who runs, why should they bother? |

That's what needs to be answered.

We will lose it if nothing is done to check and correct the encroachment.

5. When I was out and about |
|
I would bring up or comment on this occupation to strangers in stores or any place there was a line of people . This was just to test where they were coming from . I only ran into a few who were even willing to talk about much and one or two who were on the same page as I .
Here I can't even tell what areas are red or blue because everyone is in their own little world , here in grand old Holly la la land .
