"Then she and the baby are entitled to all sorts of freebies that Americans can't even get!"

==

Just now, on WABC talk radio from some idiot host with the first name of Andrew. I am not even interested in his last name. I hate these people. The right wing Republicans with their racist talk radio SOB's, not a kind bone in their body, always hopping mad about something, always afraid they are "missing out on" something...

Keep talking, assholes.

Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada have more electoral votes than Ohio OR Florida. This immigrant-bashing can help the Democrats take those 4 states in '08.

1. Immigration agents don't call them "anchor babies" for nothing.
When a parent gives birth to a child on US soil, ICE and its older incarnation INS rarely if ever separated the parents from the child. That would simply be monstrous, so they let them stay in the US.

49. "No Border" Democrats will get us (the Democrats) KILLED in '08
Your post insinuates that you believe sovereign countries have no right to borders. Is that your position? That will not play in 2008. Period. In fact, it's a nonsense recipe for disaster. It has nothing to do with racism. That dog won't hunt. Every country is a country because there are BORDERS that state on this side - it's (fill in the blank)and on that side it's (fill in the blank). This business that our borders are not borders at all, and a suggestion that this country should not enforce *current* border laws is an extremist position that will kill Democrats pandering to the Mexican-American lobby (and their votes). Simply stated: It's not "hate" to enforce the law and protect our borders. Don't buy the Kool-Aid that will KILL our Democratic candidates in '08. yes, that issue alone could KILL us.

52. Sorry, all the immigrant bashing is absolutely KILLING the Republicans.
Yeah, we have rights to borders. I know you are fascinated with the concept, as every other word in your post is BORDER, but I don't think most Americans care about the Mexican "problem" as much as you think they do.

55. You're out of touch or living in a big urban area
The "Mexican problem," as you call it, is a REAL problem in my state. Hospitals, schools, law enforcement. The canard that this isn't a "real" issue is a very dangerous way to think this year. Borders are borders. You either support enforcing the concept of borders - or you don't. But to imply that those Democrats who support border enforcement are driven by "hate" is an extremist position that will destroy ANY candidate regardless of party. Keep in mind it's killing the Republicans because the grassroots pressure has split them with the position of the White House. It's not the other way around as you imply.

understood your connection, but I don't read up on Malkin. Besides, her hate of immigrants doesn't have anything to do with what agents say. Apples and oranges. Unless you're implying the policy be changed so that you aren't automatically naturalized if you're born on US soil.

31. We've got plenty of "diverse" opinion here, too.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1163889

"I DO have a problem with illegal immigrants. They should have to go thru the same hoops that the legal immigrants have to go thru. Also, there is a limited amount of jobs here to be taken. Each one that is taken by someone here illegally knocks out an American or a legal immigrant who would be getting a paycheck and supporting THEIR family.
If YOU were unable to find work because an illegal was taking your position and your family was going hungry, I suspect you might have a different perspective. But, then again, maybe not."

"Sure we can. (Round up and deport 12 million illegal immigrants.) We won't, though. The US government rounded up several hundred thousand Japanese-Americans during the last world war.

Germany rounded up millions of Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, socialists, unionists, communists, and various "enemies of the state" and liquidated them all in six years until Germany surrendered.

Eisenhower launched a crackdown on illegal immigrants called "Operation Wetback" where he swept through the Southwest and especially Texas and smashed employers who hired illegal immigrants and arrested upwards of 50,000 immigrants who jumped the border. They estimated the dragnet probably drove several tens of thousands of other illegal immigrants who weren't arrested into Mexico as a result."

"What bothers me, though, is how those whose wages have been undercut get left out of the discussion about 90% of the time. One good blue-collar job after another has been transformed into one of those "jobs Americans won't do" by the use of illegal labor, but few seem to care about that."

36. Actually, not much against any illegal immigrants.
Just posted those opinions to show that anti-immigration sentiments are not exclusively the province of RW blogs and talk shows.

I believe we need some form of legalization of for illegal immigrants. They are not going to leave voluntarily, unless we make life so miserable for them - no jobs, no apartments, no health care, etc - that the life they left behind seems better than the one in the US. No American politician is going to go that far, even if they talk the talk, and we would all be ashamed if there were millions of Hispanics crowding the border to leave the country. Likewise, forcible deportation would be an immense and expensive operation that would be horrible on both a political and humanitarian level.

19. What I don't get is the RW sense that someone is 'losing' something -
outside of the non-union construction trades (general laborers), where I can see their point - immigrants don't *take* anything from anyone, documented or not. For the most part, they all pay federal and state taxes on their paychecks, as well as Medicare, Social Security and State Unemployment withholdings.

Day laborers who work for cash are few and far between in the immigrant labor world.

Many work minimum wage jobs and pay taxes. Many pick the food, clean the hotels and motels, cook the dinner at restaurants, etc. etc.

A good local vignette is here:

Hard and dirty work

Nine hours of chopping and boxing vegetables, hoeing weeds and moving pipes leave a Tribune reporter with sore muscles and a newfound regard for produce and the immigrants who toil in the field.

By Sarah Arnquist - sarnquist@thetribunenews.com

I will forever appreciate a cleanly cut head of napa cabbage. My new veneration for leafy greens comes after spending a day working side by side with workers on Tom Ikeda’s farm in rural Arroyo Grande. While the nation is embroiled in a debate over immigration, and California farmers worry they won’t have the labor force to plant, cultivate and harvest their crops, I wanted to better understand the effort (measured in sweat and aching muscles) required to put produce on the grocery store shelves.

After nine hours of cutting cabbage and cilantro, moving irrigation pipes and thinning a lettuce field, my hands were black and my back and neck hurt. And though I have the hardworking disposition of someone raised on the Minnesota prairie, I never want to hold a hoe again.

Yet, the men toiling the ground next to me returned to the fields the next day at 6:30 a.m. for another 10-hour day and 60-hour work week— their schedule for possibly the rest of their lives.

30. Mexican is the new Nigger
Most knuckle scrappers know enough to keep their "Black" racial slurs to themselves, but it is now socially acceptable to say the most disgusting things possible about Mexicans. It doesn't matter if they are here legally or not--they can't generally be identified.

A person I thought was a friend told me that she is "keeping the Mexicans out of her new rental property" because she doesn't want the real estate value to go down. "Mexicans all beat their wives, do drugs and ruin the plumbing." They are also "destroying our schools and health care." But she would never use the word "Nigger."

33. Exactly. If the French has beat the Spanish to Central America
and established Haiti south of our border, we would now be having a debate about 12 million illegal Black immigrants. That would certainly make the debate livelier on both the pro and con side of the discussion. As it is, it seems to be easier to be "objective" about the issue, since Hispanics are largely the ethnic group at issue now.

61. YUCK!

I clicked on that link to find out a little more about this "person", (and I use that term loosely) and I was absolutely appalled.

OK. First of all, that song, "The List," that he has on his MySpace page is disgusting. And apparently, the assholes who sing it don't really know much of anything (or perhaps it's me who doesn't). However, they mention Martin Sheen as being on "The List" of liberals they hate. They seem to be lumping him in w/ the Democrats. If memory serves, Sheen is NOT a registered Democrat. Again, if memory serves, he is WAY left of "most" democrats. To the point of being way left of the spectral line. Do you know if that's accurate? Either way, the "song" is repulsive.

And, I don't know if you caught it, but where it lists this guy's schools (I believe it said UCF), one of his "clubs" was the pistol & rifle club. But of course. Why, if he doesn't agree w/ someone, JUST SHOOT THEM.

Oy vey. :eyes:

EDIT for typo
