$475 for a stupid name??? What's wrong with people???
<...> Denise McCombie, 37, a California mother of two who's expecting a daughter this fall, spent $475 to have a numerologist test her favorite name, Leah Marie, to see if it had positive associations. (It did.) This March, one nervous mom-to-be from Illinois listed her 16 favorite names on a tournament bracket and asked friends, family and people she met at baby showers to fill it out. The winner: Anna Irene. <...>

2. If she truely believes in numerology
What happens when her daughter marries and takes her husband's name?

5. Maybe by then we'll be beyond the almost automatic
assumption that a woman takes her husband's name. Maybe he'll take hers. Or maybe they'll both keep their own. Or adopt a third one.

11. I've been married about the same length of time.
If it wasn't the fact that no one could read my maiden name & know how to pronounce it & if I didn't seem to spend an inordinate amount of time spelling & saying it, I would have kept it.

13. Mine is five letters..
And almost no one can spell it correctly even when I spell it out for them. I have to go very slowly, one letter at a time..

And to anyone who reads phonetically the pronunciation is absolutely clear.

Go figure..

14. DH has a last name that even a first grader can read.
Funny thing; all three of my names are spelled in a 'slightly' unusual way-old fashioned. Mostly I give up & tell 'em to spell it however they want: I know who I am.

17. I took my wife's surname
Went from an 11 letter Italian name to a 6 letter Polish one, with one letter that isn't in the english alphabet. But at least no one says "hey, your Italian" to which a long story unfolds that the person really didn't care to know on why I'm not Italian.... No one asks now. :D

Man, talk about a racket. There's your incentive to keep the ol' nuclear family together. Who wants to get ripped off like that twice?
