The United States has always been at war with Al Qaeda

Glenn Greenwald, Josh Marshall, and others are complaining about the New York Times and other media referring to nearly the entire population of Iraq as being member of Al Qaeda. Greenwald et. al. cite this as an example of the media promoting White House propaganda. What they fail to realize is that The United States is at war with Al Qaeda. The United States has always been at war with Al Qaeda.

A quick look at past Times issues bears this out:

1. This story was posted yesterday, BUT...today on CNN...

Barbara Starr, talking about the Mansour Hotel bombing, pointed out that the Pentagon and the White House are "claiming" this to be the work of "Al Qaeda" in Iraq, right on cue.

However, check out the front page of CNN.com...no mention of the attack, even though a US reporter was killed. You have to dig to find it. Al Qaeda has been marginalized?

3. Our government propagandist are playing a dangerous game here.
They are trying to build up the Al Qaeda fear card here in order to save bush's Iraq agenda but at the same time they are giving Al Qaeda much more legitimacy than they deserve and that will only help Al Qaeda build their ranks.
It's a dangerous game that no good can come off.
Then again, the more dangerous Al Qaeda is, the better off shrub/cheney, etc. are.

6. Ain't bad enough we illegally invaded and occupied the Iraqis country
Now they get branded terrorists. Every last man, woman, and child, living in Iraq is now responsible for 9/11. We have some very sick people running our government and media.
