Iraq Bomber Strikes U.S.-Allied Sheiks
Published: 6/25/07, 1:25 PM EDT
By BUSHRA JUHI
BAGHDAD (AP) - A suicide bomber apparently targeting a meeting of U.S.-allied Sunni sheiks penetrated layers of security and blew himself up in a hotel lobby on Monday, killing four tribal leaders and at least eight others, police reported.

The sheiks were associated with the Anbar Salvation Council, which had taken up arms to help drive extremists of al-Qaida in Iraq from the western province of Anbar.

The attack was among five suicide and other bombings Monday that killed at least 45 people across Iraq. In an unrelated incident, the U.S. command reported a U.S. soldier shot to death Monday in south Baghdad or its outskirts.

The bombing at the high-rise Mansour Hotel, on the west bank of the Tigris River in central Baghdad, struck at about noon as the lobby bustled with members of news media organizations headquartered at the hotel and other guests, witnesses said.

A man wearing a belt of explosives walked into the lobby, approached the group of sheiks meeting there, and detonated his bomb, said a police officer based at the hotel, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

2. there is no iraq left to save
get out. now. while we still have some of our humanity.

KURTZ
" I've seen horrors...horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call
me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that...But
you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is
necessary to those who do not know what horror means.
Horror. Horror has a face...And you must make a friend of horror. Horror and
moral terrorare your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared.
They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces...Seems
a thousand centuries ago...We went into a camp to innoculate the children.
We left the camp after we had innoculated the children for Polio, and this old
man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went
back there and they had come and hacked off every innoculated arm. There
they were in a pile...A pile of little arms. And I remember...I...I...I cried...
I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I
wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want
to forget. And then I realized...like I was shot...Like I was shot with a
diamond...a diamond bullet right through my forehead...And I thought:
My God...the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect,
genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were
stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not
monsters...These were men...trained cadres...these men who fought with
their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with
love...but they had the strength...the strength...to do that. If I had ten
divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You
have to have men who are moral...and at the same time who are able to
utilize their primordal instincts to kill without feeling...without passion...
without judgement...without judgement. Because it's judgement that
defeats us. "

3. more...
In other attacks across the country, at least 27 people were killed, including 13 police, when an attacker rammed an oil tanker into the police headquarters in Baiji.

And at least eight people died when a bomb ripped into a crowd of police recruits outside the governor's office in Hilla, 100km (60 miles) south of Baghdad.

The attacks come despite a big security drive by US and Iraqi forces in Baghdad and Baquba, 60km (35 miles) north-east of the capital.

American generals have admitted that many senior al-Qaeda figures have escaped from the latest operations and that Iraqi forces are not up to the task of holding the ground that has been won.

4. A "Suicider"???
Edited on Mon Jun-25-07 01:15 PM by KharmaTrain
That what I just heard the "deciderererr" call the "terrirst" who was surely from "El Kyduh" who was another one of them "disruptors".

The newspuppets on CNN keep asking the stupid question as to how a bomber could have penetrated the "three layers of security" Clue: Ya think the Security was that "secure" to begin with???

The re-bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra and now this "payback" ups the ante and how does our inept "leaderers" react? He's giving arms to both sides.

Sheesh. :banghead:
