Cheney Author: 9/11 Didn’t Change Cheney, Gave Him Opportunity ‘To Put His Views Into Action’

The Washington Post’s four-part series on the influence and power of Dick Cheney reveal the tactics of a stealthy operator who prizes secrecy, kneecaps opponents, stifles dissent, and dogmatically pursues a rigid hard-right agenda.

Cheney has argued that his quest for war in Iraq, pursuit of torture, denial of due process to detainees, and advocacy for illegal wiretaps were all precipitated by the events of 9/11:

CHENEY: In a sense, 9/11 changed everything for us. 9/11 forced us to think in new ways about threats to the United States, about our vulnerabilities, about who our enemies were, about what kind of military strategy we needed in order to defend ourselves. {12/23/03}

CHENEY: I think 9/11 changed things to the point where we could no longer afford to ignore what was going on in Iraq. {2/23/07}

This morning on Washington Post radio, Barton Gellman — the co-author of the Cheney series — argued that based on his research of Cheney, he found “no evidence” that “9/11 exerted a profound psychological change on the Vice President.” Instead, Gellman argued, “ has not changed his views very much over the years. What has changed is he has a greater opportunity to put them into action.” Listen to the interview/read transcript at link~

1. Of course it did. He was interested in Iraq in early 2001, at least by the public accounts...
of George Tenet and Richard Clarke about the first national security briefings which took place around that time.

I suspect Cheney has been planning this whole takeover for a long time, and I even suspect he may have some connection to the original Italian fabricators of the Niger yellowcake documents.

He may have been aware of an al-Qaeda attack much earlier than it's actual occurrence, or he may even have some type of indirect control over the group.

He has a history of at least defending the conspirators in the Iran-Contra scandal, which was an action less severe but along the lines of using al-Qaeda.

2. Cheney is a traitor to the United States
and should be tried and imprisoned for the rest of his miserable life.

3. Cheney ran 9/11 --
9/11 happend because of the 2000 election putting Bush/Cheney in the White House --
They tried -- the PNAC -- to get Clinton to bomb Iraq, but he wouldn't.

I think they also did the first attack on the WTC in '93 when George Bush failed to get relected --
probably thanks to Perot!

But they probably had the deal set up to go and went anyway.

The '93 and '01 attacks stink to high heavens as far as the official "stories."

5. 911 Changed Everything...like trashed the country by putting these idiots (K*R) in power,
absolutely. They're disgusting to take advantage of that tragedy. Shame on them!
