Wash Post: "Guiding Decisions form Backstage" -- Cheney as Rasputin
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 12:35 AM by autorank

Guiding Decision Making From the Back Stage

Cheney's impact has been on public display in many arenas, but he has also been the unseen hand behind major domestic initiatives.
Cheney had spent months making sure the package contained everything he wanted. One thing was missing.

The president had accepted Cheney's diagnosis that the sluggish economy needed a jolt, overruling senior economic advisers who forecast dangerous budget deficits. But Bush rejected one of Cheney's remedies: deep reductions in the capital gains tax on investments.

The vice president "was just hot on that," said Cesar Conda, then Cheney's domestic policy adviser. "It goes to show you: He wins and he loses, and he lost on that one."

Not for long.

?Separated at birth?

Rasputin……….Cheney

• Both from the hinterlands (Siberia, Wyoming) they were each accused of some strange form of mental dominance over the dim witted royal who ruled their countries.

• They were seen as mad; Rasputin “the mad monk,” Cheney, the strange guy with “man sized safes.”

• They both had singular visions of how their countries were to be run and they both implemented those notions…with the end of their respective regimes as the outcome.
Rasputin: …many high government offices were filled by his appointees, and he exerted great influence in the government. This perceived weakness of the Tsar and Tsarina destroyed respect for them.

• And, have you heard that the * family descends directly from the Romanov dynasty (well, OK, that’s not true, but this is…)

• Rasputin got the Romanovs (The Tsar and his family) tossed in prison.

• Cheney may bring * down with his handling of prisons.

DICK CHENEY IS OUR MODERN RASPUTIN

2. "I knew Rasputin, Rasputin was a friend of mine..."
"...and Cheney may just be his sociopolitical heir."

But I'm biased. But look at those mugs.

7. Cheney has had so many health problems
and he just keeps going.

Read about Rasputin's assassination. That guy wouldn't die, either. It was uncanny.

Agent Mike, I am just making comparisons here.

8. This is brilliant! Cheney is as mad as Rasputin!!
"I'm not a part of the executive branch."

"Libby is a close personal friend of mine."

"We believe, in fact, that Saddam has reconstituted nuclear weapons."

Cheney is nuts!!

The guy is a pathological liar hellbent on taking the country into the pit!
He's not even a lawyer, yet he has been shredding the Constitution as if he is a Constitutional law expert.
He's far from it.
How many years did it take Cheney before he got his college degree?
How many times did Cheney change his major?

The guy's a nutjob, thinks he is making us safer - instead, he is making us more prone for another attack!!

Impeach this bastard today!!

9. He was a theology student at one time...oh my!
Here is the nuttiest part. People actually take him seriously. We have the very worst ruling class in the history of the world in this country. They're beyond decadent. They can't even pick the right guy to run the place. What use are then?

Rasputin did have a weakness like Bill Clinton's, but he's been the victim of the usual capitalist lying propaganda. Not that the Communists thought him the cat's whiskers. I can see where you're coming from, but I'd never dream of comparing him to Cheney. Rasputin helped poor people all the time.

10. Rasputin had a 12 inch penis, was a saintly religious mystic, a
...visionary, healer, and prophet, and, on the other side of the coin, as a debauched charlatan who
serviced many of the female Russian aristocracy when over 1.30 million Russian men and military officers were slaughtered in the trenches on the eastern front between 1914 to 1917 during the Great War. Another 3.3 million were POWs until the war ended in 1918. Rasputin held a mystical influence over the czarina because he seemed to be able to control the bleeding bouts that the young prince and only male heir to the Russian throne who was a hemophiliac. Rasputin a large strong man said to be some 6'5" tall was a difficult person to kill. His assassins found out that after requiring multiple blows to the head they tried several different poisons. When that failed to subdue Rasputin he was shot a number of times and finally drowned in the icy waters of the Neva River where he was found down stream several weeks later.

Now as best as we can estimate Dick Cheney got lucky and shagged Lynn twice, getting her pregnant both times. Cheney has screwed most Americans, but no where has it been documented he is a cocks-man or has had any mistresses. Although Cheney is mysterious, he is no mystic and certainly can not heal or pass along spiritual values. Cheney is a political opportunist and most likely an agent for a foreign enemy of America. Cheney was a drunk and seems to still imbibe. He was a high school football lug and now he is a thug. Repeated heart problems have not seemed to weaken the man, but he is high risk. The two men are as different from one another as Paris Hilton and Margaret Thatcher.

11. haha...Don't confuse my analogy with the truth; it's the first stage of a conceit;)..
But seriously, Cheney matches that which I listed, except for the Romanov - * genetic connection.

And how do you know Dick's history with whomever. He could be just like "The Ladies Man" from SNL, a real smooth guy. Since I've never parties with him, I couldn't say but, hey, you never know.

That's funny you mentioned the Rasputin legend. Google the name and you can see a purported picture
of said item. It's too gross to put on the thread; inhibits the high level atmosphere that's developing.

Cheney has often had a twelve inch pizza

And while Cheney has drilled for oil, Rasputin drilled for -- Ohh never mind!

14. I posted a thread last week challenging people to come up with one honest
thing "hogwash" has ever said.

One person quoted what he said to Senator Leahy but that's really sort of a physical impossibility so didn't really qualify.

I thought maybe when he expressed remorse over shooting his friend when he was loaded, and who pray tell would take pleasure in shooting lethargic domesticated foul anyhoo. . .?

But the winner was the "I had other priorities" quotation in regards to his multiple deferments.

As if. . . all the Vietnam vets didn't have things they'd rather be doing.

This comparison is sort of an insult to Rasputin but I get your point.

21. At least, as far as I know, no one's written a Broadway musical about Cheney.

That's the only difference I see from here. Although, since Rasputin did actually believe in a spirituality, I think he'd have made a better VP.
