What are the chances of a Dem hawk running against a GOP dove?
Suppose the GOP base revolts so much against the immigration deal that they nominate some paleocon (a Tancredo, or a Coburn) who by campaign season has decided to support a redeployment of US forces in Iraq

Simultaneously, suppose the DLC manages to wrest from our nominee the guarantee of a platform that won't call for rapid redeployment or withdrawal.

What happens then?

(*cough* who would you vote for? *cough*)

1. It would be Volksgeist meets Zeitgeist,
and while I still would never pull the lever for a Republican on sheer moral principle, I would also refuse to vote for the Democrat for that same moral principle.

This should be an interesting conversation.
