Jeesh! Newsweek Poll has Bush at 26% Down from 28% |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 11:47 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I just looked at PollingReport.com and the latest Newsweek poll just came in at 26%.
We are getting into Nixon range now.
I keep wondering how low this is going to go - and when Congress is going to start reacting to this. I just can't believe that Republicans aren't just standing up and having major fits about Bush and Cheney.

But that means that 75% have come around.
Bush was over 90% at one point. (Although I find that really hard to believe)

6. I'm pretty sure, he's bottomed out. |
|
People are still too tribal about their politics. What's hurting him is the fact that he's taking a sane stance on the immigration bill. The wingers rightly understand that the core of their base really needs to hate someone. An immigration policy that recognizes the contributions of Hispanic immigrants to our economy and rewards the hard work of those who've been here and made a success in this country against incredible odds is a direct threat to the fear mongering that most Republican policies are based on.
Big fat corporations like having that cheap labor pool to tap into, so Bush is answering to his real master here. The righty nuts know they need to whip up the anti-Mexican hatred to keep people fearful, and so a temporary dip in Bush's numbers is an acceptable sacrifice to them. He's more or less outlived his usefulness to them anyway. But have heart. Once this bill passes or dies off, Bush will retrench and go back to scaring the evangelical dupes into loving him again. Expect a big push on gay marriage or abortion right around the time Petraeus makes his September report on the "progress" produced by the surge.

7. We will have to see - I'm betting he will go lower. |
|
His ICK factor is increasing daily.
So is Cheney's. (he has a really high ICK factor)

9. Smirk belongs to a 'tribe' that is quite willing to eat its own. |
|
As soon as the GOP-Borg is programmed to regard him as a threat to The Party, they'll savage him like chickens savage the red-skulled hen in their midst. (Put bright red nail polish on the head of a chicken and step back to watch the carnage in the coop.)

12. I've predicted this for YEARS. |
|
On many occasions on DU I've posted the prediction that the GOP must ultimately 'martyr' Smirky McCodpiece. He's a pathological narcissist that poses nothing but an embarassment as an "ex-pResident" and has the greatest potential political value to the right as a martyr. The most likely scenario, as I've said, is to replace Cheney some time in advance of the 2008 primaries with some anointed successor to the White House. Once Cheney is replaced - even due to stepping down for "health reasons" - a "tragic event" (most likely of exploitable nature) can befall Dear Leader and the anointed sucessor can then stride upon the national stage (much like Smirky at Ground Zero) and, in the name of Protecting America, engage in the same necro-political charade we saw in 2002-2003.
I have no reason to project such events other than trying to imagine what would be most advatageous to the psychopathic powers who've taken control on the fascist right. It continues to seem likely to me.

13. I really doubt they'd put one of the 2008 contenders in as a new VP |
|
It would open up some real serious bad blood in their primaries. Think of how the Thompson, McCain, Giuliani, or Romney factions would flip out if they got gypped of a fair shot at the nomination. Or worse, think of the egg-face if the Cheney replacement still went on to lose the nomination.
Republican self preservation instincts run too strong to open themselves up for a catastrophic blunder like that. For look at all the flip flopping on Iraq from Dick Lugar, Chuck Hagel, Susan Collins, and whathisface from Oregon. If they dump Cheney, the replacement will be a placeholder only. Republicans are too cut throat to risk that kind of fratricide. They'd put in Jim Baker or an Orrin Hatch to hold Dubya's hand for the last year of idiocy--or maybe a potential 2008 VP nominee like Lindsey Graham or Robert Gates.

The real shocker is that 26% of Americans still approve of the job Bush has been doing. Who ARE these people?

10. I think most of them probably are my next door neighbors. |

I know a lot of people here in KC that are too embarrassed to admit they were wrong about Bush - so they just keep trying to make excuses for him.
Its getting kind of painful to watch.

14. Sadly, The Numbers Within The Numbers |
|
I recently saw a local poll of area Repugnicans and it's amazing how fractured, yet how conditioned they are.
While an overwhelming number either disaprove of booshie or of other prominant Repugnicans, more than 50% said they still intended on voting for the GOOP presidential candidate next year no matter who it is and for others "down-ticket" (Senate, Congress, Dog Catcher). They're just waiting to see who emerges and then to try as hard as they can to flush boooshie out of their system...similar to how many Democrats did the same with Johnson in '68.
boooooshie has long stopped caring about the poll numbers of "dirty fuckin' hippies" like us...all he cares about is "the base"...whatever he defines that to be. He sees only the 26% who will watch him eat a baby on live TV and applaud...the rest of us are "disruptors". Plus he still has a corporate media that somehow can't figure that 26% means 3 in 4 hate the bastard...or his corrupt party...and still ape the talking points and give airtime and forums to the liars and enablers.
The big lie goes on...
