Hey, you! Senator Lugar. Yeah, you....
EAT SHIT, you Johnny-come-lately, bloodthirsty, chimpanzee-enabling, warmongering, stay-the-course piece of shit Senator from hell.

THIS is the Lugar I will remember:

"Yesterday on CNN, Lugar said that U.S. troops should remain in Iraq if a full-scale civil war breaks out. (Lugar acknowledged Iraq is “heading toward” that outcome.) According to Lugar, “The idea, somehow, that civil war means that we leave is a non- starter, because Iraq’s physical integrity is important.”

1. C'mon, ease up.
Better late than never.

That doesn't mean I'm in love with the guy. I'm from Indiana, and I didn't vote for Lugar in 2006. But hey, we'll take allies where we can get them. And at least he's gutsy enough to admit when he's wrong.

4. Lugar is NOT my ally. This is a craven, opportunistic "epiphany" & I don't buy it.
He's running scared, not "leading".

2. non-starter.
The US is going to be driven out of Iraq on a rail. It's only a matter of time.

5. I Once Rode Up An Elevator With Sen. Lugar

and his aide, at a hotel. His toupee was quite amazing to behold - not what he's wearing these days.

A few hours later, I rode up with some hookers going to the same floor. I have no idea who the hookers were visiting, but it was pretty amusing.

7. We need more senators and representatives to oppose the war....
The message we are making to those who we want to switch sides on Iraq is that if they do we will call them names and revile them.

Yathink that'll work? Methinks your strategy is infantile. It feels good, perhaps, to throw a tantrum. More maturity to actually end the war. Good luck ending the war by making war with those who no longer support it.

Grow up!

Cheap Talk

26 Jun 2007 09:23 am

With regard to the Dick Lugar question discussed below, the AP's coverage of his speech clarifies that Senator Lugar doesn't intend to do anything about his qualms with Bush's Iraq policy:

"In my judgment, the costs and risks of continuing down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be achieved," Lugar, R-Ind., said in a Senate floor speech. "Persisting indefinitely with the surge strategy will delay policy adjustments that have a better chance of protecting our vital interests over the long term." . . .

However, {Lugar spokesman Andy} Fisher said the speech does not mean Lugar would switch his vote on the war or embrace Democratic measures setting a deadline for troop withdrawals.

Bush can at least say that he's implementing a massively wrongheaded Iraq policy, leading to untold deaths and the trashing of American interests, because he doesn't know any better -- Lugar's doing it because, what, it would be impolite to do otherwise? Because he's just a bad person and doesn't give a damn? This stuff makes me angry.

"Methinks" you are a little naive here.
