Next POTUS and VP may not have any power |
|
After the flagrant abuses of powers from our present occupiers of the WH.
I am really worried that the next administration will be so curtailed in oversight as many will try to "over"correct the flagrant abuses of power that we have all been subjected to. Maybe not so bad, if God forbid a Republican gets into the WH, but I think this will really haunt the Dems.....
This country is in such horrible shape in too many ways to mention that not only with the expertise of our next POTUS be just about exhausted (that is why I will hold out for experience and a record), the media, Congress, Senate and political activists will try to make sure that the power of the office of POTUS will be held down to be checked and rechecked, perhaps hindering the actual actions that can be taken by the next administration.
It is bound to happen, the pendulum will start swinging the other way.

1. Only if they're Democrats. If they're Republicans, they'll be all powerful. |

2. The whole idea of an chief executive is fundamentally flawed and undemocratic. |
|
The staff of the government is loyal to the person who is "in charge" not the American people. I have to wonder how a President would be able to conduct illegal activities if the people in their administration were more interested in the American people and the US Constitution?

3. Some people would say that working for the POTUS, is working for |
|
the American People. I, however, agree with what you say, its just that it would be difficult to be POTUS and not have a loyal staff ..... great point though, something worth thinking about.

talk more about their dedication and loyalty to their President than to this people.
And some of them were Democrats (obviously, I'm using more the generic version of the President, not as a pronoun for the current President.)
When someone is blinded by loyalty, that blindness includes not being able to see the illegality and immorality of the person in charge, should they go down that road.

is to elect someone deserving of such loyalty, with as much loyalty to the American people, whom they serve.

Just like no one can be trusted with absolute power.
Our entire system of government is based upon the principle that even an "enlightened despot" is as wrong as a plain old despot.

8. Have they turned back their abuses yet? |
|
Have all the recent laws enacted that contradict the constitution already been overturned? No, the next president will inherit special powers.

9. One thing they won't have is MONEY. Bush has gotten us so |
|
deep in debt that the only way to get out of the bind is to inflate and further the sinking of the dollar.

by 2009. Never, in the history of the entire fucking world, has any leader run up such a massive debt. Add that to all the previous deficts, and we are fucked.

12. forget the presidency . . . we need more dem congress critters |
|
to override any president's veto. a dem president would be nice but, if it's, say, hillary, we may not get out of iraq and so may lose congress in 2010. frankly, i'd rather see us with a stronger hold on the house and senate in 2008 than worry about the presidency.
