Poll question: Has Elizabeth Edwards challange to Ann Coulter affected your support for Edwards in the Campaign? |
|
I have to admit I have been on the fence between Edwards and Obama, with a bit of me liking Richardson as well - but seeing what Elizabeth Edwards said has moved me quite a bit closer to supporting Edwards. What about you? Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

How could the Coulter debate make someone less likely to support Edwards? Is it because it showed that he doesn't muzzle his wife or am I missing something?

5. That is what is wrong with meaningless polls like this. |
|
The few folks who voted this way never supported Edwards to begin with.

9. I can't see it myself - but it's a matter of balance |
|
If I am going to suggest that the debate might make someone more likely to support Edwards, the counter point is that the debate might make some less likely to support Edwards.

13. I don't think they were ever going to vote for Edwards |
|
Or any Democrat anyway, then, so that argument is really not valid.
I'm grateful for Elizabeth standing up.

3. It's pointless. And possibly damaging. |
|
Ann Coulter might be a godless succubus with a heart that pumps not blood, like you and I, but a vile, black ooze that can corrode even the toughest metals on touch, but she's a LOT more practiced on debating politics than Mrs. Edwards. I can see no good that can come from this. The people that listen to that demon aren't ever going to be swayed into voting for Edwards, and the people that are voting in the Democratic primary aren't listening to Coulter in the first place. Even in a best case scenario, I see little potential gain for Edwards, while in a worst case scenario - Coulter eviscerates Edwards - it makes her husband look pretty bad, even among Democratic voters.
She would've been far better off just making a mockery of Coulter, which isn't very difficult to do, and then ignoring her.

Neither of us have all the answers, so disagreement is perfectly healthy.

10. Elizabeth Edwards is a much smarter and more compassionate person |
|
than Ann Coulter. You underestimate her at your own peril, frankly.
You're also forgetting that Ann Coulter does not debate. She shouts over and interrupts others. Anyone who has critical thinking skills will arrive at the conclusion that Ms. Coulter's positions are indefensible, not to mention the fact she's bullying a woman who's already been shown to be VERY popular with the American public.
>I can see no good that can come from this.<
I see no good from Elizabeth Edwards sitting down and shutting up. It's good she's calling Ann Coulter out on national television. Someone has to do it, and I think Mrs. Edwards will do just fine.

14. And does Mrs. Edwards know how to properly handle the bullying routine? |
|
I haven't seen anything that suggests she can, but then again, I haven't seen anything to suggest she can't either. It's impossible to underestimate someone that has never had to display any of the skills necessary to win a debate. Intelligence and compassion play smaller roles in such forums than you would imagine, and while I don't question either for Elizabeth Edwards, I do question whether or not she's "ready for prime time", so to speak. I think that's a perfectly fair opinion to hold of someone that hasn't demonstrated their abilities, and frankly, it takes something of a leap of faith to think otherwise.
And I didn't advocate her "sitting down and shutting up", but if she's so eager to campaign, why doesn't she run for Senate in North Carolina herself? There's little stopping her, and quite frankly, I think it's a great idea. Returning to the point, however, I don't think calling out Coulter will accomplish much of anything. It's a trap that has little political benefit - Edwards (Mr. or Mrs.) and any other candidate would do well to simply mock her while ignoring her. Our private wet dreams of seeing Coulter getting verbally smacked around aside, this has little reward and carries a non-negligible amount of risk.

15. Mrs. Edwards is a former law professor |
|
and a lawyer of some renown herself. I'm sure she can mete out the smackdown when it's necessary, and do it in such a skillful way that Ms. Coulter won't even feel it till it's too late.
I would never, ever underestimate Elizabeth Edwards. She, according to several articles I've read, is the real deal. If she weren't currently fighting cancer, I'm thinking she would have been the one to run for office. I know I would vote for her in a heartbeat.
Coulter is a sideshow whose fifteen minutes are just about up. It's only a matter of time before she has an episode that will make her even more umemployable than she is now.

7. I'm in the Edwards camp, no change there, but I also like Obama & even Clinton to a degree. |
|
Elizabeth is a great lady, and Edwards has a lot of great qualities. He sitll has more work to do to convince me that he is "the one", but so far he's in first place.
But primary voters seem to always go for someone other than my pick, so maybe I should support Gravel or something!

I'm not 'supporting' anyone's campaign yet.
Perhaps this should be asked at FR?

18. made me want to take another look at him |
|
going to do some looking on the tubes of the internet this weekend
and I'm going to send him a few bucks
consider this thought - this is the 2nd time coulter has attacked Edwards, why? are the repubs more scared of Edwards than they are of Obama or Clinton? Obama and Clinton are the front runners - so why wouldn't coulter go after them?
