Coulter is finished...soon she will get help. |
|
I don't watch MSM news anymore partly because of creeps like Coulter. But alas, I watched the video clip as I found her comments about terrorists killing Edwards was totally out of line. The clip showed the "entertainment" value of her "self-absorbed" persona has gone way beyond the boundaries of reason.
She has finally "jumped her shark".
People were laughing at Coulter.
They laughed AT HER...not with her. (most of us have long been disgusted by her)
The MSNBC poll clearly shows that the public is done with her...so much so that they will avoid watching her as I have. I typically ignore her and the posts associated with her but this time I had to chime in.
We are all so sick of her. Her tired boring attacks are sophomoric at best.
We won't stop her from writing her columns. But publishers would be well advised to stop printing her crap because it will soon be a big loser. Television would do well to avoid her as she will ruin the credibility of any sane broadcast. Our "eat me now" culture loves entertainment and when it happens in our news programs we love it even more it seems. Thus why Ann keeps rising from the dead to splatter across the airwaves and and internet on a regular basis. But now it all seems so...unseemly...watching that clip made me want very uncomfortable. I am sure I am not the only one who felt that. Does the Neilsen control have a "uncomfortable" button or check box...?
Viewership, readership and sales will fall after her little episode yesterday and today. Who would want to invest in publishing a book by her? Who, now, would actually want to read her crap? Who wants to sell products wrapped with Ann Coulter's words? Maybe ten years ago when the Republicans were hungry and Bill Clinton bashing was all in the rage it may have been popular but now with the GOP clearly wrapped in scandal, lies and the nation in a never ending bloody war, her shrill attacks seem simply out of touch with what people need now. We need kindness, peace and reason to replace the lies, hate and division that people like Ann have supported for so many years. We are all so tired of it. Exhausted...worn out...even conservatives are feeling the shame and they express it as anger and nervous laughter...as they try to deny association.
I think of Ann like a mentally ill person that walks down the middle of the street shouting. Trying to get attention they strip themselves naked screaming at people as they avoid contact, they hurl empty threats and insults. Screaming until someone comes and takes them away and offers the help they need to calm the troubled mind. Ann needs this attention now. She no longer needs the attention of popular culture, she needs the attention of a doctor.
The time has come for popular culture avoid Ann...She needs to be helped now...not encouraged.
She is sick. And her sickness is effecting people around her in a negative way in ever increasing percentages. Time to leave her alone and let her find her true place in the real world not the fantasyland of television.

2. Without going into a long-winded psychological discussion... |
|
I agree with you, Ann is sick.
Your image of the street person screaming in public is apt. But it would be a strong doctor who could give Ann the gift of facing the truth about herself. The therapist would have to deal with a hundred angry & violent demons. She is very disturbed.

Those few young people who were there yesterday cheering her, something is wrong with them as well. I don't know, however, if it is psychiatric in nature or just their moral compass gone akimbo. Pity, at such an early age.

7. Regarding her publisher--It can't be said often enough, people! |
|
Crown/Regnery/Nelson, etc. will NEVER drop their RW hacks because there will ALWAYS be a market for their work, or SO IT APPEARS.
(I need to copy and save what I'm about to write here--note to self)
Here's how it works. Crown/Regnery/Nelson etc. manufacture the demand for their books and it's vitally important you realize how it is done. Let me try to explain...
Precious, precious few nonfiction books have print runs in excess of even 100,000. Most of these RW books have INITIAL print runs of 1 million or more, though--and the publisher KNOWS that they will sell--it's guaranteed.
How is that possible? It's a bit complicated, stay with me. It also explains how these titles reach Number 1 the very week they are released.
As soon as the titles are announced, the market gears up and pre orders are made in mass quantities--but traditional retailers (B&N, Border's, etc) aren't buying in those mass quantities. They buy enough stock to cover a modest demand only.
But distributors (who drive the bestseller lists; bestseller lists are NOT derived from retail sales, but by distributor sales) will buy in massive quantities knowing full well they will sell out and possible need to backorder. So who's buying these pre-pubs in mass quantities?
The RNC, the Heritage Foundation, the College Republicans, etc--that's who. They buy in enough quantity that they can qualify as a retailer but THEY NEVER SELL A SINGLE BOOK.
They give them away by the handful. Donate to the RNC? Get the new Coulter book. Attend a Bill O'Reilly speaking engagement? Get his latest. Here, have another dozen for your friends who don't attend.
There's a reason that the NYT (the bible of the bestseller lists, the only one that retailers know really matters) puts a star by these books--they know that the market for them is artificially generated--and now the retailers have caught up.
These books "sell" indeed. but the retailers sell few of them.

8. Calling her mentally ill is just as offensive as using gendered terms |
|
she's just an asshole. Face it. Some people are just assholes. Rush is an asshole. Newt is an asshole. Coulter is an asshole. It's that simple. To talk about her being sick and needing "help" is really offensive, or are you her doctor? Sure, call her "nuts" or "crazy" but don't try for anything more than that. Too many people out here know friends and family members who really do have mental illnesses. I can sort of see where the LGBTG people are coming from on this issue.

As long as her psychotic spewing draws a crowd, sponsors will sell tickets (or light beer, or wireless phone service.) Even as a caricature of herself, she's worth $$. Jerry Springer is still going strong, why shouldn't Ann?

This may be the beginning of the end, though, and I'm guessing that her hate revenues are falling. I believe I heard her publicly split with her beloved *, didn't I?
I'm guessing that some of the thirty-percenters watching Hardball realized that Elizabeth Edwards sound a lot more like they do.

I believe that Anne Coulter thrives on negative attention. (It's sort of like surviving on water laced with cholera). I think the best way to help her is to ignore her. Then she'll be forced to face herself and not put all her focus "out there".

29. I disagree. She is the poster child of the republican party. She is w's cheerleader. |
|
I would like to cram her down every repukes throat relentlessly. I think the only way to defeat her is to play her so much that even her supporters get fatigue. Drown them in it. Make them eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner. Stuff it in them until they are ill. Then remind them that she represents THEIR views. And force it on them some more. Granted, there will always be a small percentage of truly mentally ill people that will support her no matter what, but I think most of them would come around.
