Cheney May Meet his Match in Democratic Rep. Emanuel
WASHINGTON - For six years, Vice President Dick Cheney had his way with a compliant Republican-led Congress while dismissing Democrats as nuisances.

Perhaps the most famous example of the Cheney approach came when a Democratic senator tried to make small talk after earlier criticizing the veep. Replied Cheney on the Senate floor: “Go f— yourself.”

That was then. Now the Democrats run Congress, and Cheney faces a confrontation this week with a man who’s his match in profanity and perhaps his superior at using the machinery of government to back it up.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, on Wednesday will propose cutting all appropriations for Cheney’s office from the bill that’s needed to finance the executive branch.

1. Pat Leahy was the one who was told to go F himself
And he's been going after the WH far more than Rahm.

2. I agree. If anyone could stand up to Cheney and not blink it is Rahm.

5. I wouldn't hold my breath.
The chances of Emanuel doing anything effective are very remote.

8. When Mr. Emanuel first announced the idea of defunding Cheney's office
he claimed it was a "stunt". That is a direct quote.

I am very afraid he will not carry through with his threat.

10. Years of observation.
This is a typical stunt. A hallmark of the current democratic leadership that likes to play at leading while working hard to follow.

6. This proposal should be tailor-made for this VP only.
His Mertz-Ricardo logic has been an exception -- no other VP has ever suffered moments of depleted oxygen-to-the-brain where they acted as a dictator.

When we get a Democratic, bonafide elected, president & vice-president, the rule should, of course, not apply.

12. Dems force Cheney to flip-flop on secret docs
Dick Cheney's office is abandoning a justification for keeping the Vice-President's secret papers out of the hands of the National Archives.
Officials working for Cheney had tried to claim he is separate from the executive branch, but they will no longer pursue that defense, senior administration officials tell The Politico.
The decision follows a threat by Rep. Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), the No. 3 House Democrat, to try to cut off the office’s $4.8 million in executive-branch funding.

Rahm comes out of the blue with a crazy stunt and suddenly he's the Democrat's hero??? I don't think so....
