WHO'S AFRAID OF,...a "constitutional crisis"???? |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 03:20 PM by sicksicksick_N_tired
If a 'constitutional crisis' means defining executive power, I say,...let us get on with it because I DESERVE AND HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW whether or not my nation still stands on the edge of a democracy or has fallen into corporate totalitarianism.
WE ALL DESERVE TO KNOW!!!

2. Agreed - The problem with the "run out the clock" strategy |
|
that the political establishment appears to have adopted is that it doesn't address this essential question, leaving cynicism and suspicion in its wake.

We are never going to recover from the last several years (perhaps, even, decades) if cynicism and suspicion is sustained by a failure to challenge those who have had the arrogant audicity to destroy the fundamental values attached to a democratic system.

8. With just three words, you've perfectly laid out the case why this confrontation will be avoided |
|
And they were parenthetical words, at that.

16. Hey, don't shoot the messenger |

I'm just saying that in a democracy a measure is never carried forward unless it's in somebody's interest to carry that measure forward. If you expand the scope of your defense of the Constitution from the last seven years of abuse to "perhaps, even, decades" of abuse, then you're basically implicating Democrats in the abuse of the Executive branch. Which of course costs you any allies you might have in favor of bringing to a head the constitutional debate over executive power.

19. It's not entirely a matter of 'party', as you suggest. |
|
It's more a matter of individuals wrapping themselves around what it takes to GET IN THE CLUB AND PLAY THE GAME.
What "allies" do I disenfranchise with that position? The corporatocracy? Well, screw them,..they've done enough to destroy this nation and are certainly NOT ALLIES of mine.

5. I'll bet the ones asserting "executive power" are MORE AFRAID than we should ever be. |
|
Why? Because those dastardly sadistic profiteers know damn well that they are usurping our nation's resources and laws with NO RESPECT for either this nation's people or the sacrifices to establish this fledgling democracy.

12. I've thought about that. I am not worried about SCOTUS. |
|
The appointments may swing 'conservative' on social issues,...but, the SCOTUS isn't going to give up ITS PLACE AND POWER in this country.
Nope. I worry more about this administration suspending the Constitution and the 'shadow government' taking control than I do the SCOTUS opinion on executive limits (or limitlessness, as the Bushco/neocon/corporate regime seeks).

,...to concentrate their power over this country,...bouncing the other two branches off themselves.
THAT IS MY PROBLEM.
This regime will ABUSE the democratic system until either: they are STOPPED or they succeed in getting the power they want,...absolute power.

13. I believe, calling them on their, "OH GAWD, a constitutional crisis" crap,... |
|
,...would be a GOOD THING for two reasons:
(1) It would force them to expose their true intentions; and (2) It would let the rest of the DESERVING AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOW precisely where this country stands in terms of a democratic or corporatocratic/totalitarian nation.
In my view, confronting the 'constitutional crisis' meme is a WIN/WIN position for the American people.

suspense. It's beginning to bore the hell outta' me! The GOPers have a lot to answer for and they know it. I think their "New World Order" is in trouble.
