Wrestler Benoit Saw His Doctor the Day He Killed His Wife
Professional wrestler Chris Benoit met with his doctor just hours before he allegedly began a weekend-long double murder-suicide that left his wife and young son dead.

Dr. Phil Astin of outside Atlanta told the Associated Press Wednesday that the 40-year-old World Wrestling Entertainment star visited his office Friday and showed no "signs of any distress or rage or anything."

"I'm still very surprised and shocked, especially with his child involved," Astin, who described Benoit as a friend, said in the interview. He also said that he had prescribed testosterone to Benoit because he suffered from low amounts of testosterone, a condition frequently associated with steroid use.

Meanwhile, Jerry McDevitt, an attorney for the WWE, publicly revealed that Benoit's 7-year-old son, Daniel, was suffering from Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic disorder that can result in a range of medical conditions, both internally and externally. The boy's physical condition, McDevitt said, was taking a difficult toll on Benoit and his wife, Nancy.

1. I don't understand why the media is saying this is 100% "roid rage".
Understand, I'm not defending steroid use, but come on. Every sport in this country is loaded with steroid use. Who has Mark McGuire murdered? If the media REALLY believed it was the steroids then they would be screaming all bloody hell for the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL etc to get serious about muscle enhancers instead of being so half hearted about it.

2. I agree - steroid abuse is bad but not THIS bad.
It's the intellectually lazy mediaat work - find a superficial angle to a story and then flog it like a dominatrix in a bad mood...

3. ESPN shows have clearly said the link hasn't been drawn yet, and may never be.

5. Typical sociopath
no "signs of any distress or rage or anything."

'Roids aren't good for anyone, except under strictly controlled medical conditions, but it's not to blame for this. As is the case with school shootings, and virtually any other crime committed in cold blood, these murderers are nothing more than sociopaths, who either "snapped" or who planned their killings for a long time and kept it secret. People with that condition can hide it very well if they want.

6. It's low testosterone that causes rage...
but that doesn't fit the AMA's agenda.

I found that after an injury I normally have 20% the normal amount of even low test. After the accident, that made me more aggressive than I have ever been. My wife almost left me due to my rage. After finally saving enough money to get on treatment, when I was back to the low range I was back to my old laid-back self. As an experiment one time when I was in Mexico for four months for work, I took about 750mg per week extra (which is a lot!), and I had no rage. I just had such a strong libido that I couldn't concentrate. Since then everytime I can't afford to keep-up my treatment, I get angry and think of suicide several times per day. It's the low test levels that cause the problems. These wrestlers and weightlifters could be between cycles and have low test because of their suppressed natural production when they go off like this. While Benoit was prescribed test, maybe he wasn't either taking it or, as commonly happens because doctors are more concerned about the DEA than their patients, it might have not been enough.
