Rethugs trying to blame Tahoe fires on environmentalists |
|
I heard this on Neal Boortz yesterday, and then heard Slimeball repeating it today. They're trying to lay the blame for the fires in the Tahoe area on environmentalists, saying that environmental regulations have prevented anti-fire measures. I think basically the argument was "If they would just let us cut down all the trees, we wouldn't have to worry about this."
I feel sorry for anyone who's lost their homes, but forest fires are a natural process! If you don't want to worry about forest fires, you don't move into the middle of a giant forest. What you don't do is move into a forest, then cut down all the trees so that you don't have to worry about your house burning down.

1. This is the standard fare from the timber corporations. Never mind that 100 |
|
years of forest service policy designed to aide the timber business is the prime cause.
Cutting the large trees in the forest encourages more and hotter fires by removing shade and encouraging brush buildup.
Good science dispels this corporate claim, but they keep pushing it, none the less.

2. I think nature in general scares them |
|
So, when natural disasters such as forest fires occur, they naturally go looking for a liberal to blame it on.
Except to nature, it's not a disaster. It's part of the natural process.

3. Why not they move into swamps then drain them. They move into beautiful vistas |
|
grand open areas with sweeping views they grade and pave them till they look like a 1950's movies set. What about all the fools moving to AZ and planting and watering lush green lawns?
The idiots will not be happy until they have used up and poisoned the whole world.

If ya'd let us cut down all the forests, there'd be no forest fires...now watch this drive.

5. This is a familiar refrain to me. |
|
For more years than I care to remember (I keep trying to forget them, trust me) I lived in an area where environmentalists were Evil with a Capital E and the only good tree was a logged tree. If the prevalent mindset had prevailed, there would not be a tree left standing in the forests of the county where I lived. Thank God Bill Clinton came out and implemented his Forest Plan before it was too late. But then Slick Willie (as they called him) ruined the locals' plan and alas (in their opinion), there are still some trees standing uncut.
Sorry--still makes me mad to think about it, and I was never so glad to leave a place as when I finally moved to a more environmentally enlightened part of our state.
