Ex-Cicero cop guilty of beating man who taped him

Chef had been recording alleged attack on woman

Ex-Cicero Police official James DiSantis was convicted Tuesday of beating up a chef who stopped to videotape DiSantis allegedly assaulting a woman.

DiSantis originally had been charged with beating up three people, including the homeless woman whose alleged beating the chef had stopped to videotape. But DiSantis was acquitted of the other two beatings.

Jurors may have found the chef, Hector Montes -- who works in the kitchen at the University Club -- more credible than the other two victims because he had no prior criminal history and because another Cicero Police officer partially corroborated his account, prosecutors said.
