My objection to this Edwards-Coulter stuff is that
it creates the very sort of media circus event that we complain about so much all the time. Issues related to the illegal activities of this administration are being drowned out in the media because this is being touted as the most important "political news" of the week. It is a nonissue. The likes of Coulter and Limbaugh and Hannity deserved to be shunned and not promoted. Take the wind out of their sails.

1. It distracts from the real issues of the day like Paris Hilton and the "Mommy's in The Rug" murder.

2. I understand what you mean, & agree to a certain point
However these issues are created by the media - they don't drown out the important issues. The MSM won't pursue the important issues without a dog biscuit from the WH.

Why doesn't David Gregory hone his journalistic skills by asking Cheney if he acts like a secretive tyrant because he has heart trouble? Oh right - only female targets, not in this administration. I was also disappointed listening to Dana Milbank on KO, elucidating on the fact that Mrs. Edwards "won" because as a cancer patient, she's a more sympathetic figure.

Maybe we should e-mail in the questions we'd like these people to ask & suggest some real guests who aren't necessarily blonde, skinny, sick, missing or dead?

3. I totally disagree
I agree that in a sane society Coulter and Limbaugh and Hannity would be regulated to the fringes, but they aren't. They are the face of modern conservativism and as such we need to fight them and point out how out of touch with America and American values they really are.

5. Unfortunately It's The Corporate Media's Sales...
I'm hoping this latest Coultergeist noise vanishes in the 24-hour news cycle...replaced by some other tripe, but at least not Coultergeist. She gave MSNBC a good 24-hours to milk all the controversy. The couldn't rerun the clips enough and have the usual suspects there ready to comment on it. Nevermind the substance here, Bow Tie Boy and Scarborough and others were looking at other, nefarious, reasons for Mrs. Edwards to call and how money must now be raining on them...or how desperate they are...using Coultergeist to raise money. This meme was all but written going in and it's been played like a Stratavarius.

Unfortunately, as long as networks see nothing but ratings from bringing on Coultergeist, they will. As long as Coultergeist knows that when she goes over the top it makes for "good TV" and both ratings and her sales rise. It's a win-win. Whereas, bringing on a Michael Moore for an hour has a lot more "risks" as he is an enemy to the corporate entities...and must be made to look bad. We don't write these scripts, others do. The thing we need to do is recognize these games for what they are and show it to others.

Right now there's no downside for NBC to play the "Coultergeist" card or some other stunt as they know they'll get a reaction and then can pontificate on it...creating and manipulating their own story.
