Gonzales ‘overzealous’ about death penalty

“Paul K. Charlton, one of nine U.S. attorneys fired last year, told members of Congress yesterday that Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has been overzealous in ordering federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty, including in an Arizona murder case in which no body had been recovered.”

Justice Department officials had branded Charlton, the former U.S. attorney in Phoenix, disloyal because he opposed the death penalty in that case. But Charlton testified yesterday that Gonzales has been so eager to expand the use of capital punishment that the attorney general has been inattentive to the quality of evidence in some cases — or the views of the prosecutors most familiar with them.

“No decision is more important for a prosecutor than whether or not to . . . deliberately and methodically take a life,” Charlton said. “And that holds true for the attorney general.”

Well, so much for their "culture of life" arguement....

Also, how can someone face the death even though a BODY has never been recovered????

Just think of this:, I'm married have a huge fight with my spouse and leave without informing my spouse I'm leaving, where I'm going or how long I'll be gone. Weeks go by, then months and the cops come and charge my spouse with my murder, even though I'm safe and sound in another state and unaware of my spouse's murder charge, and even though they don't have a body they charge my spouse anyway.

Gonzo would prefer to put my spouse to death.

What kind of JUSTICE system is he trying to conduct here???

Very Alarming, if you ask me

for war crimes.

4. Yes, Texans have had to suffer from these "culture of lifers"
On September 10, Texas executed Willis Barnes, the 100th person to be murdered by the state since Gov. George W. Bush started his term in 1995. At a demonstration held that day, 80 people protested against Bush's bloody record on the death penalty. More recently, at a Live From Death Row forum in Austin, the audience of 120 gasped when a speaker pointed out that more than 100 executions had taken place under Bush's watch.

And no wonder. Roughly one-third of all executions since 1976 have happened in Texas, and well more than half of those have taken place in the five years of Bush's term.
