Did anyone besides me see Pelosi on Charlie Rose last night? |
|
I was impressed with her. Reassured. Rose asked her if Bush was becoming irrelevant, and I loved her response. She said he was not becoming irrelevant so much as "oblivious" to all the damage his administration and his decision-making have done.
I wanted to smack Charlie Rose a number of times when he seemed to want to be personally assured that Pelosi was giving the "president" (sic) his due, not stepping on his domestic and international prerogatives--as if Bush has any prerogatives on any policy that don't demand being stomped into the ground!
The main message of Pelosi's I was most impressed with: always go for the big picture. Bushism fails everywhere, but especially in Iraq, because of its myopia. A solution to Iraq can only come about when the whole Middle East is considered, and this means expanding the toolbox to include diplomatic, political and economic measures to reduce the violence in Iraq and extract US forces from an unwinnable, lose-lose-lose-lose situation.

But I have the "WGBH World" (Boston area cable channel) which repeats the previous day's show in the afternoon. I will view it then.

if it didn't hold my interest. And I'll be damned if it didn't hold my interest!

3. I can't stand Charlie Rose |
|
The comments you quoted show just out of touch and right wing he is. He acts like he's scared to death that he's going to be criticized by the republicans whenever he has a Dem guest. I once saw him interview Michael Moore and his interview was one of the worst I've seen on TV, and that includes FAUX. Not only was it nothing but right wing talking points, he interrupted constantly and was incoherent to boot. Still, whenever I criticize him some DUers jump in to say he is liberal. Anyway, I'm glad Nancy stood her ground and I hope she has some action planned.

6. I'm with you, but he's not so much right wing as status quo. |
|
With emphasis on status. Charlie Rose is the ruling class's thermometer, always up its ass.

9. I was even encouraged by her remarks about the legistlative pressure on the GOP |

to get the troops the fock out of Iraq. I was afraid she was bullshitting when she said Dems shone a spotlight on the failures of the Bushist Iraq policy. That's a bit of an overstatement. It was the left that has kept the spotlight on the failures, and only because of the left that the Dems are in a position to change the policy. But her remarks about what's in store for Congress in July with respect to Iraq legislation, though I take it with a bit of salt, was encouraging.

Pelosi heaping personal praise on the chimp (something along the lines of "lovely" man with a "patriotic" family) toward the end of the interview. WTF? Why, Nancy? Why?

11. I suppose in her position she can't say "What an asshole!" |
|
I did notice that and retch a little. But on one side of the scale you have "lovely" "family man" and the other "oblivious" "fiasco maker." Pretty faint praise when you get right down to it, but loud and clear criticism.

14. Trying unsuccessfully to imagine |
|
Gingrich having anything nice to say about the Clintons back in 98 when the repukes were busy impeaching Bill over a stain on a blue dress.
Yes, drawing a line between the political and personal is certainly prudent, but IMO "Impeachment is off the table" Pelosi should have withheld the fawning Bush family compliments - that Rose was eating up - and used the time and forum she had to expound more forcefully on Bush family crimes.

15. Gingrich did once call Clinton a very charming man |
|
and whined that his charm always wound up confusing Gingrich into following his lead. I don't recall where I read this, but I think it was a New Yorker article assessing why, after a couple of years as speaker, Gingrich hadn't been able to assume the "prime minsterial" role le tout Washington was praying he would assume.

12. I spoke with her in the Capitol earlier this month. |
|
I had the opportunity to share with her my own experience with * even before he was Governor of Texas, and as a citizen to encourage her to bring him and his enablers to justice. I didn't see the Charlie Rose interview, but she made the same point to me about the "big picture," which I always endorse (it's even in my sig line.)
I have been very frustrated with the Democrats' seeming timidity to go after the criminals in the administration, but I'm recently more assured that Nancy understands the pressure from the people, essentially giving her permission to do the right thing.

13. She's clearly no fool. |
|
She seems sincerely to be ahead of the Congressional curve on most issues and is just a lot more patient with the system's serious flaws than those of us on the left.
