CONYERS: Bush's Response To Subpoena Shows "RECKLESS DISRESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW"
Chairman Conyers Responds to White House Asserting Executive Privilege on Judiciary Subpoenas
June 28th, 2007 by Jesse Lee

Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers released the following statement in response to the President’s assertion of executive privilege in response to the committee’s June 13 subpoena for documents:

“The President’s response to our subpoena shows an appalling disregard for the right of the people to know what is going on in their government. The executive privilege assertion is unprecedented in its breadth and scope, and even includes documents that the Adminstration previously offered to provide as part of their ‘take it or leave it’ proposal. This response indicates the reckless disrepect this Administration has for the rule of law. The charges alleged in this investigation are serious - including obstruction of justice and misleading Congress - and the White House should be as committed to this investigation as the Congress. At this point, I see only one choice in moving forward, and that is to enforce the rule of law set forth in these subpoenas.”

10. Come now...
...did we really expect Bush to respect or comply with the rule of law?
:sarcasm:

I just hope that Conyers, Waxman, Leahy, et al will now USE some of that hyper-dry powder and NOT BACK DOWN on this.
:grr:

14. Expose just ONE of their crimes through impeachment procedures ...
In The House (not the Senate *yet*, of course: IN THE HOUSE) and COUNT THOSE REPs (on both sides, sadly...) who will refuse to vote Yea after these crooks (the dic-k, first) case will have been MADE PUBLIC through the major papers (WP, NYT, CT, etc.).

If it passes the House, THEN LET THE SENATORS be counted next!

If it doesn't pass the House, make sure those who refused to sanction THE LAWBREAKERS will be defeated next time (for the Rs) or will lose their primary (for the *shameful* Ds).

It's the only *right* way: why wait any longer?

13. Keeping the powder dry
keeping powder dry is a good practice - however all the dry powder in the world doesn't do anything until it's out of the pouch and loaded

24. Like Gen. Meade at Gettysburg
Dem leaders in Congress will again fail to do their duty and pursue the Bush WH when they break the law and flout the Constitution.

Is it possible to bring charges against the Dems for failing to take action? Are they in any way criminally negligent for not pursuing this?
