what with their prodigious birth rates, diseases, and lack of temperance, O! that they have become an insidious poison that corrupts the body politic!

(just imagining the type of posts i'd be reading if they had internet forum discussion in the mid-19th century).

1. Well, it was definitely tougher to hold internet discussion forums in the 19th Century.

For one thing, users were always having their hands scalded by those steam-powered PCs.

On top of that, it was such a pain, and ruinous to one's eyes, to sit for hours keybording onto a monitor by candle light.
