--UPDATE: DU server hard drive failure

We experienced a server crash today that was caused by one of the hard drives of our database server starting to fail. We are currently running at level 2 to offset the performance loss that this is causing.

The new hard drive is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow morning, and we expect to be able to replace the failing drive immediately after it arrives. There will likely be some downtime, possibly an hour or more, while we replace the failing drive. It is also possible that we could experience unforeseen downtime today and tonight if the drive gets worse.

Unfortunately this is just one of those things, hard drives will fail, but hopefully we've already dealt with the worst of it.

18. IIRC, some years ago, ya'll did a fund-drive with the idea

of buying some new equipment.

But this last go-round,the Admins posted that you didn't want to do a fundraiser while you were having equipment problems.

Frankly, I'd guess a number of us DU-addicts would cheerily chip in some more bucks if you ran another fundraiser intended to support upgrades.
