Rahm Emmanuel's DeFund Cheney Vote only missed by 6 VOTES!
Just now...it was "fast voted" through. Thomas.org doesn't have vote up yet...but it seemed it was 215 to 209 with some not voting. I had to look at C-Span screen so I might be off but I do believe the "missing by 6 votes is accurate."

GOOD NEWS... A SHOT ACROSS BOW to CHENEY CRIME,INC.!

1. Even though the DeFunding lost, that was totally excellent!
That is amazing! I hope someone tells Darth Cheney how close it was.

3. I'm still digging to find the vote...House did a 2 Minute Vote and it was very fast...
but entering it in US Gov. Thomas doesn't come up with this. Hopefully other Bloggers will get the details. It was exciting how it came up...sort of buried in a full vote...but it was "close" with some not voting...but it definitely is a "shot" at Cheney...more than Bird Shot...a WARNING! Heavy WARNING!

Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 06:49 PM by kirby
The link in my last post is now active:

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll596.xml

(I'm ASSUMING since this is the 'Emanuel of Illinois Amendment', it the defunding measure)

Only 2 Repubs voted for it:

Jones (NC)
and Ron Paul

4. You can't tell me they didn't know the outcome
I don't trust that grandstanding asshole one bit because if you believed his hype-he ALONE is responsible for the Democratic "victory" in 2006. But, I'd bet my bottom dollar he is also responsible for the capitulation to Bush on the funding bill.

36. Let's look at it this way: Emmanuel was "testing the waters." I can't stand they guy
but...we have to figure he isn't the only one there. This was a Dem vote not to go for blood...but to "test." I hate it as much as you...but they are going slow/fast in the past weeks.

I was surprised that they got it to Roll Call vote since this morning it got shot down with only a "voice vote." Savvy Dems pushed for Roll Call vote to get the NAMES OUT THERE who voted AGAINST IT.

Rahm's looking a poll numbers for Congress and his Dem voters and also the numbers of Dems who are VERY ANGRY. His STUNT proved more fruitfull than I ever thought it would. And, as I said, Rahm and his DLC'ers make me :puke: ...but maybe they are learning.

8. Was Surprised, too! Thought it would be DOA! They did a Voice Vote this a.m. with not many on
House Floor but a member called for a Recorded Vote later in the day. I was in and out but kept checking both C-Span and CNN and Wolfie around 4:00 p.m said the House will be voting soon on the Bill about VP Cheney...so I figured it was on.

Then I caught just the last of the vote and didn't have pencil to record those "not voting" but I think what I saw is accurate... You know how hard it is to look at C-Span Screen when you just walked in and are doing other things and didn't think you'd catch something IMPORTANT!

I'm still hoping that bloggers or someone will have the breakdown of the vote. The key is those "not present/not voting but the numbers I saw are Impressive no matter how it's spun.

24. It was a vote calculated to show Cheney...he's NOT ABOVE THE LAW...
And, the first vote was voice vote so Dems managed to get it pushed to late afternoon for Roll Call Vote...to get the Repugs and Dems and abstainers ON RECORD.

Problem is...I can't yet get the record of the vote because even though CNN just reported that the vote went down they didn't show the close margins.

I'll find the vote eventually. Just wanted folks to know...I wouldn't have caught the second vote if I hadn't just walked in and was channel surfing when it was going on.

IT WAS CLOSE! That's GOOD! That they had TWO VOTES is GOOD! They now have a record for Cheney Impeachment and what they have to do to get FULL VOTE...if it comes to that...is what I'm saying.

14. I'm just saying
6 votes or 20 votes, motions like this will never pass.

I just don't believe that the outcomes of votes like this aren't known in advance by party whips or party leaders. If it got REALLY close we'd hear about it in advance.

I expressed this sentiment even before the vote.

I just don't see the reason to get excited about it.

20. A bit of an uncomfortable margin, that's true
Every vote has it's "statistical" uncertainties, but like good bookies, the leaders know the winners and losers in advance.

And when was the last time you ever heard a majority or minority leader EVER express surprise at the result of a vote?

Assuming they had their count right, then yes, there was a a huge mistake. It doesn't happen often.

29. Sorry about my response, but I'm just a bit more cynical than you
Do you have any idea of all the horse trading that goes on behind the scenes?

Votes are 'traded' on a regular basis. And they have NOTHING to do with individual consciences.

Yes, I'll vote for this IF you vote for my amendment later.

NO, my constituents won't allow me to vote for THIS bill, but I'll make it up to you later.

NO, my party leader says to vote no on this one, even though I agree with the motion.

And so on and so on....
