From Al Gore: Please Sign The Live Earth Pledge
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 05:45 PM by RestoreGore
http://www.algore.com/action.html

His official website has a different look to it ( which is easier to navigate,) and I think that he may well be taking six months postponement of some of his speaking engagements in order to get into high gear regarding the multi-year blitz being initiated by The Alliance For Climate Protection regarding starting a global movement to solve the climate crisis. Live Earth is slated to be just the beginning of his multi-year effort, and I would think he would want to be at the heart of that initiation. I don't know for sure, but knowing his dedication regarding this it doesn't seem farfetched to me.

Also, the latest action entry asks us to sign the Live Earth pledge for our environment. I signed it and I hope you will too. I cannot wait until Live Earth to begin the important work we all must do to see this message reach every corner of our world to generate enough positive energy to inspire a moral awakening that will make the political sphere have absolutely no choice in changing with us.

Thank you again Mr. Gore for your relentless passion and conviction in addressing this crisis and in inspiring us to do the same. I for one am proud to state that I support you in this challenge to preserve the sustainability of this our only home for my child and all of our children.

1. Article: Al Gore Unveils Seven Point Pledge
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 06:05 PM by RestoreGore

On edit:

It was good to read that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid signed this pledge. I think that every candidate and every public official we can get this to on all sides of the aisle should sign it to show they also care about addressing this crisis. This is not just a Democratic issue or even a political one. This is a moral crisis that effects us all regardless of politics.

7. Yes, I like it very much, and you are not alone on that score...
I have a bit of way to go too, but am so much closer to my goal than I was a couple of years ago and I actually feel better for it. To know you are contributing to a better planet in the future for all by what you do today is a very rewarding feeling, and really one of the most important things we can do now.... now we have to impart that on governments, businesses, and individuals, and I think we will do it because of efforts like this that not only give us solutions, but hope.

9. Well?

Have you signed the pledge yet? !:dilemma:

Mr. Gore also called for a developed world plan to reduce emissions by 90% by mid century and to have a new global treaty up by 2009 as well as stopping construction of new plants unless they have carbon sequestration mechanisms in place. Now you damn well know that is far beyond any political scope, but it is most definitely necessary. He also called for a 50% reduction by underdeveloped countries (which I hope does not include China since they just surpassed us in emissions) because those countries on continents such as Africa are not emitting close to what developing nations are but yet are feeling the brunt of the effects. This most definitely is a MORAL issue that we must address on a global scale NOW. But again, there will be no political will to do this unless the people demand it in a sweeping and continuous loud voice!

16. TWO Day kick...
Edited on Thu Jul-05-07 06:41 AM by RestoreGore

For Mother Earth.

I PLEDGE:

1.To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

2.To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

3.To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

4.To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

5.To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

6.To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

7.To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

17. Here's a kick for ya!
Hey RG - sorry I didn't see this thread before I started my own very similar topic yesterday.

If it was up to me - the whole DU homepage would all be about signing the Live Earth pledge!

Al Gore has been doing a lot of media in Europe over the past couple of days.

He wrote a great Op-Ed piece in the New York Times last Sunday.

He will be on Larry King tonight - don't miss it !! B-)
