Our neighbors are moving tomorrow
He is in the navy, being reassigned to Michigan. He is an IT tech w/ the local recruiting station. In spite of this, and the fact that he is a Bush-bot, I'm really sad  as we've had some really good times together. He's a young pup (34 yo.) and has a lot to learn, but we've had some great, spirited discussions. Only one time did he and my husband really fight about politics - something about Darth Cheney. DH just stalked away, and like men, they kissed and made up the next day.

Summers were the best, when we had movie nights. He strung 2 sheets sown together, from trees in the back yard and we would stay up most of the night watching movies via an LCD projector. The super bowl party, when the Steelers won, was awesome, and the Veteran's Day pig-roasts were hysterical.

Our first pig roast was the fall that my father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and we knew it was only a matter of time. We got a friend at work to kill a pig for us and dress it (he owns a farm). The damned thing was at least 5 feet in length frozen solid and it rolled around in the back of our car all the way home from work. Then, of course we couldn't fit it in the fridge to defrost, so we left it in Dave's garage for 2 days to start defrosting. When it was soft enough to bend, we could fit it in the fridge. As it continued to defrost, it kept kicking the damned door open! We finally had to duct-tape the door shut! My dad, in the hospital then on serious medications, thought it was hysterical. It was one of the few funny last memories he had with us. The men started cooking the pig at 5 PM Friday and stayed up all night keeping the fire in the smoker going and imbibing alot of alcohol. By the time of the pig roast, most of them were in no shape to enjoy it.

We've made friends with some of the navy folks, and have promised to continue the Veteran's Day pig-roast tradition. We'll just do it at our house instead.

So anyway, at least there is one less republican in PA. Don't know who the couple is who is moving in, but they're local, so it won't change the overall political dynamics in the state. 'Course, then we don't know who will be moving into the apartment they will be vacating.....

1. I don't have any republican friends
My boss is republican but we agreed not to discuss politics a long time ago.

It's nice to hear they can be fun to hang out with.

But I still think they should all be ashamed for giving us bush and cheney.

3. I have a few GOP friends
and my dad always voted GOP. They all voted for Stupid in 2000, bought the lies hook line and stinker. Every single one of them either sat 2004 out or voted for Kerry.

Just because they're wrong doesn't make them bad people, even if they're very slow to learn.

5. I have a friend at work
republican through-and-through, who just before school was out (we're middle school teachers) said he wouldn't vote for the bastard today if he had the chance.

I'm glad they're waking up, even if it is too late to do any good.

14. Our job is to make them see that Stupid is what the party is now
all about, how every level of it has sacrificed every principle they've ever espoused in the name of naked greed for the top 1% of wealth holders in this country. It's not going to be difficult, but it's up to us.

Point to his rubber stamp GOP Congresses to do it.

16. I am a teacher too and I don't understand how any teacher can be a
republican. I have been teaching almost 30 years and my dad was a teacher too. So you can say that I have been in the education business all my life. And I have NEVER seen the republicans do ANYTHING for our kids, at the national, state or local level. Not one thing. They support vouchers and NCLB. They vote against increasing funding for schools at the state and local level.

I do not for the life of me understand why any educator who supports what is best for kids can ever vote republican.

11. Good for them!
All my republican friends didn't see the light until after the 2004 election. Fortunately we're in PA, so it didn't make much difference.

10. You're right, they should be ashamed
and I really have to grit my teeth and bite my cheeks when they express regrets for their votes. But I guess everyone has to live and learn.

7. It's actually a good move for them
They are from Wisconsin, and it will only take them 6 hours to go home instead of 12.

We've worked them over pretty good, so hopefully they will soon see the light:think: !

6. Nice story. It's always hard to find good neighbors.
I'm glad you were able to still be friends regardless of politics. It amazes me here sometimes the comments like "they should all be ashamed for giving us bush and cheney", as if they should hide in their houses until 2009. Not every Republican is a monster and not every Democrat is a saint.

Cheers.

8. I completely agree
I think there is a BIG difference between republicans and Republicans, and democrats and Democrats. The lower case letters representing the majority of the people in this country who just want the best, regardless of their nomenclature. We may differ in philosophy, but believe that our position is the best for the general population.

My friend & I at school try to make this point with the kids at school - that you may not agree with someone's polital views, but you cam still get along.

12. I wonder where he's moving to here.
Good people like him are welcome most anywhere in our state, though he might not always fit in with his political views. Up north or over here on the western side, he will.

13. Near Battlecreek
Near some lake where all the rich people build million dollar homes (not that he'll be living in one!).

20. Gull Lake?
I live in Battle Creek, and the main rich people's lake around here is Gull Lake. Good people in Richland (the town next to it, ironic, eh?), and he'll fit right in. :)

18. As long as we stay away from politics
they are absolutely trustworthy. We've watched their house while they were on vacation, and they've watched ours, even while we were at the March 17 March on the Pentagon.
